Spinning trees!!

Is it only me or do you also have this experience?

When looking down on the trees right below you, they appear to be spinning!

I understand that when flying over a forest or something that the angles is shifting but this is way too much.

I experience this in VR.

Do any of you see the same thing?

They are distant cousins of pre-2.7-DCS clouds. Basically the lower LOD impostors can't figure out the rotation properly. So you see something like this:

Always been that way. Very distracting but likely not going to be changed any time soon.

Oh c'mon, really?  Spinning trees are indigenous to Europe.  They are also called dancing Ents.

Yes, that is how it looks.

Is that very hard to get right?

Yes, it's actually quite distracting and immersion breaking.

Don't worry, it may take time, months or years but it will be fixed one day.

When I was working up with my new flightsim PC and IL2 GB I noticed this in singleplayer fairly often and it was downright psychedelic. But after a while I learned to completely ignore this and do not even notice it anymore - it's only a distraction if you focus on it and let it be an immersion breaker. I "look through the trees" so to speak as I was taught to do when I was learning to hunt as a kid and later on a recon team, looking for movement of targets and aircraft below me rather paying attention to the trees. A need for situational awareness replaced my attention on the dancing Ents.

Yeah, I stopped noticing this artefact - just imagined the branches were moving in the wind.

...now Rise of Flight on the other hand - try viewing the trees from above! I never quite got over that :)

Ignoring it is probably the best solution but it is hard, because I enjoy watching the beautiful maps while I fly.

I only play in singlplayer and psychedelic is a good way to describe how it feels.

I haven't done this for very long so I will probably get used to it, sooner or later.

Just wondering if this is something that is very difficult to fix, since it sounds like this "problem" have been existing for a long time?

I have not been playing this game very long so I don't know how issues like this have been dealt with before, but I really hope that it will be fixed one day.

I must say I really enjoy this game but things can always be improved ?.

I will give that a try ?

Don't have ROF, but now I got curious. How do the trees look there??

I agree that you will learn to ignore that pretty soon. If you are looking at the trees you are gonna have a bigger problem on your 6 soon enough.

Hmmm could be the old Dr Who Christmas trees…I’d be careful. ?

I also find it distracting that shadows don't seem to project on to trees.

You can download it for free - it has three free aircraft.

That's great, however, I need to learn this game properly before adding another one ?

Hahah I noticed the spinning trees the other day as well, made me feel well spaced out ?

RoF is still a great game, and in a sale very much worth the price of the extras; f.i. fly boats and the channel map.

Well, the thing to do would be to pick up Flying Circus - as it will hopefully eventually have all of the aircraft from Rise of Flight, but on the new updated engine!

That said - considering I already have RoF - it is nice to be able to access some of the earlier aircraft!

Definitely - if we don't get an FC with a Channel Map and Flying boats then it'll always have an edge in that regard.

I really do dream of a Channel Map for FCIV and an 'Isonzo to the Gulf of Venice' FCV... may the audience grow enough to justify that someday!

I actually have Flying Circus, the first edition.

I tried it first time I got my VR glasses, but I felt dizzy and nausea because I wasn't used to it.

Haven't played it much yet, but some day I will ?

It is definitely worth it! The swirling dogfights do take a bit to get used to, but one also doesn't want to always be turning as that bleeds too much speed/altitude anyway. FC2 has some really great aircraft for just flying in btw. I love touring in the Sopwith Triplane (it is great for urban flying).

Yes, those planes are so manuverable that it was too much for me as a beginner to VR.

I started with FC because I thought it would be easier, but found out that wasn't the case, hahaha.

Yes :) I've come to suspect that our entire WWII era and modern theories of air combat manoeuvring need to be completely rethought for WWI... and that historical accounts might actually support this. I'll make a thread on it in the FC forum sometime.

Trees in this game are absolute garbage

Hopefully they get around to reworking them like they did with clouds
