Throttle / Axis Emergency Crisis - Please Help!

OK, normally I would not be such a drama queen but I have 2 days WFH without my family and this has to happen!!?!

This is since the last update / hotfix. Basically, I tested and in both UK and German and aircraft (ie those with alternatively manual and automatic RPM control) the RPM and throttle work fine while on the ground. The axes move correspondingly in set-up and I have full control of the 2 levers as long as my wheels are on the earth.

Until I take off

Then - usually the throttle control but occasionally both - go completely binary: I can have 0 or full (no throttle or combat setting) and I can only fly by switching rapidly from one to the other. Obviously this breaks the engine in a matter of minutes and is totally unusable

1. Everything works fine in setup and when in-game on the ground

2. I have a lovely Virpil throttle and have checked this outside of the game - all good

3. No apparent control duplication that I can see in key-bindings

4. I have a Seitek 3 axis thingy that I thought might be the issue so I unplugged it, but to no effect

5. No issues with joystick

6. Have turned off / on and plugged / unplugged but cannot work out why this is occurring.

Any help most gratefully received!!! My flying time-clock is ticking!!!! ?

I'd like to be a Knight In Shining Armour but sadly I can't think what the problem might be... have you tried altering the controls level ie Manual, assisted etc? It may be something like that but I'm only wildly speculating.

Please put up if you solve it, if only to help other unfortunates who may encounter...

As painful as it sounds, i would suggest deleting the inputs folder and start from scratch.

You will have to map all controls (10 mins max) and you will avoid all headaches.

I know the value of 2 days off by yourself. 10 mins is much better than endless frustration.

Best of luck!

No, have not played about with the assists so I will - thanks. What I cannot understand is the whole works-until-take-off part. Has me stumped.

OK, so just delete all the files within the folder and the relevant will reappear when I enter the game and make new profiles? Just asking as I don't want to break anything vital!

Honestly, with the new Input profiles we just got, now is probably a great time to start from scratch on a per-plane basis. I've been considering it (but I spent a looot of time perfecting my single profile back in the "old days" and I can't bear to delete all that effort lol)

My personal approach:

Keep the basic single engine profile as the generic one.

Create special ones for 2 engine, jets, three engine (Ju52), all derived

The main differences are for engine management, bomb bays and other functionality that is typically common for those categories. Reuse some buttons for things that are unique for each.

So far its working really well.

As Jade says, your old "perfect" profile will still work very well for many planes, and will serve as a good base for making a couple of extra custom profiles, which are going to share 70+ percent of commands anyway. No need to create all individual ones, it's not DCS ;).

Rgr chaps, will try to get done tonight. Was hazarding a guess it had something to do with the new control regime. Delete all files and restart afresh.

Much obliged

I had to nuke everything in my input folder when this feature was first dropped for beta testing. After that, all was good. ??

And for whatever reason, all the quick view settings got overwritten again...

Hope you get it sorted.

I’ve had a rare ‘wife gone for 2 days’, and then of course - power outage. ?

Thanks all, but problem persists. Deleted all inputs and started again. The engine control axis are not showing up as moving on the axis tuning screen and though the throttle works perfectly on the ground as soon as I hit c. 50mph on takeoff it goes either all or nothing.

Only thing left I can think is a complete install. Which is a little annoying given the circumstances.

Just tried an A-10C from ramp to touchdown and no issues at all...

You have throttle universal and throttle per engine bindings, clear them all except for the actual ones you use, and than see.  Don't know how your hardware is physically set up but if anything is spiking it'll grab command as soon as you stabilize the axis.  I bind my axis to the key command default column making sure there is no keyboard command left for it, and delete all universal bindings since a dual throttle device is being used, binding the individual engines and prop controls per axis on the controllers.  If you don't clear the unused duplicate commands your asking for trouble with shaky hardware.

Thanks Cpt. The probelms is that I have done all of that you suggested and it remains. Odd aspect is that the issues only begin above about 50mph and then cease when am back on the ground below 50mph, only to reappear when I again accelerate.

No issues in DCS. On the plus side, it was fun to the fly the A-10 for the first in ages.

Am reinstalling now. But thanks for the suggestions ?

Did you doublecheck the throttle software for axis mapped as sliders or buttons, by mistake? I know in CH and saitek software you can map axis as buttons.

That would explain the 0% and 100% issue. It doesn't explain why it's working properly in DCS, unless you use different profiles for DCS and Il-2.

This is more or less what I'm doing. Honestly the biggest thing for me was making a "Global - Lever Brakes" profile for all the Russian and British planes that don't have toe brakes. I have a Jets profile and a WW1 profile that I'm still tweaking.

Go in your Virpil software and update the firmware(there was an update recently) and then re calibrate in the virpil software. Never calibrate Virpil Hardware in Windows. Good luck.
