Engineers to rebuild destroyed or damaged bridges. Or barring that, engineers to deploy pontoon bridges.

Yup.  Could be Funny tanks or a truck carrying engineer capability with a time limit on repair.   

Once bridges are blown, particularly on maps with one bridge leading to it, the ground game is over. A simple fix like engineers would ensure all maps could cater to everyones needs.

 

Obviously it would need a lengthy time limit to continue to provide purpose to destroying the bridge in the first place.

Within the time-scale of the game, though? The Bailey bridges put down during Market Garden were 10-12 hour affairs, and I've never seen a multiplayer map that lasts that long.

Well certainly some leeway must be given for the time constraints of the game. The representation of building a bridge can be enhanced, let's say, by the number of tanks that standby the site, or the air cover provided by the side wanting the bridge to be built. Time compression factors if you will. 1 tank = 2hrs, 2 tanks = 4hrs, so forth and so on.

 And of course the bridge building or repair project can be suspended for a certain amount of time by a well coordinated strike by the enemy. In other words, simulating the engineering corps suffering a devastating blow and the need for reinforcements and/or replacement of equipment. Even to allow the enemy to move his own engineers into the position.

 

 I guess the best way to see it work it would be game triggers.
