joystick question

just wondering about joysticks. i would like to get one but don't know what to get since i have literally no experience with them. i just want a good, reliable (and preferably not expensive) one. has anybody got any suggestions, and also do we have to assign the controls manually for the joystick in il-2 or will i have to assign them myself?
