Jason_Williams Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Quote 326 Dear Pilots and Tankers! Today’s DD gives you a glimpse of the gorgeous scenes that are possible with the new Normandy map which is rapidly nearing completion and we give you a sneak peak at the progress on the Churchill Mk.IV exterior and interior. Below are some recent screens I’ve taken with each of the aircraft built specifically for Battle of Normandy including the AI piloted B-26. Of course, all of these planes can be flown alongside your own or against in any title in the series. This really is our most detailed and complex map we’ve ever made and pushes our current map technology to its limit. It will provide countless hours of great missions and historical re-enactments of this pivotal battle and theater of the war. We think you’ll like it. Full Text and Visuals HERE. Jason 18 4 1 1
Blitzen Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Happy to see you’ve got the immediate future all “mapped”out!? ( Gee- first time I’m first- does that mean I’m lucky all day today!) 3 2
percydanvers Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Wow I wasn't expecting a dev diary this week! Very nice!

DD_Crash Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Thanks Jason. Any chance of getting DigitalForms to incorporate SimShaker output? 1
RedeyeStorm Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Oh you poor dev fools!! Waiting for the clammer to start to 'fix' the old maps!!
=EXPEND=CG_Justin Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 The map looks fantastic! Due to the complexity, is there a performance hit?

Denum Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 (edited) Looks beautiful. Super nice job. Can't wait to play it. Wish there was some other changes made to entice me to preorder some planes but c'est la vie. I'd ask some questions but apparently it'll just get deleted? Edited August 5, 2022 by Denum 3
Dusty_Steppes Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 This game keeps getting better with each additional theatre of operation. Plenty of aircraft from different time periods of the war. TC is what sparked my interest in this game and it has piqued my interest in the aircraft. I tested the water with just a laptop a year ago and you should see my cockpit now. It has been quite the rabbit hole. Maybe it's time to complement all those aircraft with armor from the same time periods. We have aircraft that span the time period from 1941 to 1944 but sadly there is no equivalent time frame support for armor. It just might get more people to open their wallets if there was a more varied selection of armor available that covered the same time frame as the aircraft. 1
ilmavoimat Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Looks fantastic!! Any teasers for us aspiring Dak pilots???
SCG_Faerber Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 It's coming out nicely! Do we have the navigation map ready?

Will he have a 1944 sub-caliber shell for the Western Front, or will he have a shell nomenclature for 1943? if it will have 75mm, then why it could not have 1944 ammo, heck give him post war ammo also...

Will he have a 1944 sub-caliber shell for the Western Front, or will he have a shell nomenclature for 1943? If I´m not mistaken the land-lease Churchills were equipped with 6-pounders (57mm). So all shells available to 6-pounders in 1943 (Kursk, Charkov) should be there. Quote CAMD RF 38-11355-938: "The MkIV tank has weaker armament than the KV-1 and KV-1S, but superior armour. The MkIV carries three times as much ammunition for its machine guns as the KV. The AP shell from the 57 mm gun penetrates all the way through a PzIII tank from the side, 60 mm of armour in total, at 950 meters. The MkIV has lower hp/ton, and therefore a lower maximum speed, than the KV-1 and KV-1S, but its average speed is equal. The MkIV and KV are equivalent in their operational range. BladeMeister Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 The map looks very small on my phone. Will have to wait until I get home to have a look. The Churchill looks nice though. S!Blade<><
FlyingNutcase Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 A really nice looking map. Nice shorelines is one notable little point on top of everything else. Great work.
IckyATLAS Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 You mention that the current map technology for the Normandy map was pushed to the limit. Two questions here: 1) Does this mean that you may change technology for future maps after BON. 2) Can we count that the previous maps (Stalingrad, Kuban, Moskow, Rheinland) will get sometimes after the release of BON a facelift or maybe get a refit with a future map technology you may have chosen as the new standard for maps? 1 7
DBFlyguy Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 How many versions of the map are coming with the release? Spring? Summer? Pre-Landing? Post-Landing? 1
AEthelraedUnraed Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 (edited) I'd like to point out a couple of things that Jason didn't explicitly mention: Farmhouses! Ooh yeah, baby! The water inside the harbour is calmer, and beautifully blends with the higher seas further out. Hard to tell for sure, but it *looks* like the beautiful rolling waves from the Kuban map are making a comeback - at least on some locations. 21 minutes ago, DBFlyguy said: How many versions of the map are coming with the release? BMA_FlyingShark Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 I didn't notice all that but thanks for pointing out. Very nice indeed. Have a nice day.
TheSNAFU Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 The Normandy map looks fantastic! I just hope with all the new beauty, it comes with optimization that ensures a smooth vr experience even near cities and airfields. ? 1 2
Hamaha15 Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 ...and Calais has a (near) photorealistic contemporary footprint - to the caracteristic walkway pattern of its Northern Cemetery. Hopefully, Dunkirk has been treated with the same historical care - opposite to CloD which has it modelled according to today's topography with only little resemblance to what it looked like in the past...
69th_Mobile_BBQ Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Can't wait to load up a C-47 and run the flak gauntlet on the night-before Airbourne drop! 1
pilotpierre Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 What flight Sim just keeps on giving? Once again I be mucho impressed with our dedicated crew and their mascot, one impressive Jason, the jewel in the crown. BoN is the reason I passed on the 6 months to live 23 months ago. Motherbrain Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 This will easily be the best map in Il2 by far.
US103_Baer Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Normandy map looks amazing. Will the new FC2 map use the same tech? Potential changes to No man's land in it too?
--[---MAILMAN---- Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Problem When I opened the game and the first screen loaded a download for this latest update started. I clicked on the "read more" button about #326 and the window that opens to read about it is in Russian not English. Yes English is still in the box at the top right corner of the page. I have closed the game down several times and relaunched it and the same thing happens each time, Russian Language page pops up. I have never had to log into the forum to read it until just now. When I click on the bottom "read more" button the window that opens is in English.
Gedm Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Gorgeous work it looks fantastic. But I gotta ask, any info on those drop tanks Laddie?
senseispcc Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 (edited) Like in a song of the Pink Floyds "waiting". Impressive pictures, thanks to making us impatient to get them in the game! But the best part is just the anticipation of the final result and all the new mission and campaigns we can reproduce in this fantastic game (sorry it is still a game). The little corrections that we shall discover after the first weeks of gamming, nothing is perfect and something so big as this edition of it shall be nearly perfect . The many planes we shall crash on take off and landing, the first time the "channel" shall be crossed and the fuel situation of our planes become critical, etc... All this discoveries and many others are for soon and I thanks in advance the team of developers for their formidable work (even if they get paid for it) it is a great (I should write, gigantic, piece of work, THANKS! fergal69 Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 ME410 & D/D in the same week, must be Christmas? No wait, it's not Christmas, so they must be planning something extra special for Christmas. Many thanks to all who have helped develop planes, tanks & maps - looking good & looking forward to flying over the south coast of England ? 1
Frequent_Flyer Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 From what we have been shown the Normandy map looks outstanding great job done by all concerned. Very much looking forward to its release. 2
ACG_PanzerVI Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 @Jason - thanks, looks like we're getting close. We are all with kittens to know what is next after full BoN release. Can you perhaps let us know when you might be able to tell us? Labor Day maybe? Sooner? 1
