After the sortie is over..........

OK the mission is over, and you have been told you can go back to base, but, you haven't fired a shot and still have plenty of petrol. What to do?

Besides strafing ground targets, is the program done?  Anything worth hunting for, or is it best just to land, and start another mission?

Curious.....

It's ultimately a game so you can do whatever you want really...

You call the enemy pilots on the radio and ask them if they want to buy some ammo.

You can then come home with empty guns and enough money for booze.

Well, the question is, is there anyone out there to play with?

I'm on single player career............

Usually yes. Especially with the density set to medium.

Yes there's still stuff going on in the mission and you can run into all sorts of trouble.

In many occasions you can expect ennemy fighters doing a suicidal (if your airfield has AAA) run on your airfield when the group is landing... if you don't have enough AAA on your airfield, you very well may be in trouble.

So staying in the landing pattern might be worth the wait?

You can fly with your enemy,  CTRL/F2 and then make an educated guess as to where they are.

I usually straffe anything I can find using high speed single passes.  There are groups of 2tanks+1AA at the front, if you can figure out which is the AA they're pretty easy to take out on the first pass before they start shooting.  (Unless that's been fixed in the recent patch with gunner behavior...)

I hope not...

Stop doing that and use PWCG.

This plus scripted campaigns and the AQM for single player.

You will probably find that the enemy aircraft are triggered to appear by the opposing faction being within a certain range, which means they won't show in game untill you are close enough.

Next time you have a mission like this, where it seems to be too quiet, finish the flight and open the mission in the mission editor. You can then have a look around and see if there really was anything to shoot at somewhere on the map

In my experience I can usually find trouble if I go looking for it, though I always fly with the activity settings on dense.

I've found that Kuban is the easiest campaign to get into an unplanned fight in since the front is so concentrated and there are almost always hotspots of activity over Novorossiysk or Krymskaya.  Gelendzhik airfield in particular loves to send up interceptors if you get a little too close as a German.
