Newbie her, Just installed IL-2 1946 updated with all the patches including 4.15 and will not run

G'day all, I'm a newbie to IL2-1946 which I bought on DVD a little while ago. I've just installed it and updated it with the half million patches and updates that have been released since the original game. I ran the original, and checked a few subsequent patches to verify they worked, and it was all good, but after about v4.13.1 I didn't check it again.

I got the the second last patch, v4.13.4m to 4.14.1m Official Patch, and tried to run it but to no avail. So I thought to update it to v4.15 in the hopes tat would work, but nope. On the initial install of 4.15 I chose the first exe option and when I tried to run the game, a DOS screen ran and looked liked it was loading, but go to an Error and then stopped before shortly closing said screen. The error was, "Error: file fb_3d019.srs incorrect!"

Without uninstalling the game and going through those patches again and ran the 4.15 update, this time choosing the second exe the "classic" as it said. THis time no DOS screen, just the computer having a think for a moment before nothing.

I ran the il2setup.exe and first set the graphics to DirectX, then tried with OpenGL, no difference.

I also changed the conf.ini to the same res as my screen, without making any difference.

Hi Alan,

I suggest first to install 1946 and update only to 4.12.2m, because this is the basic version for many good mods.

If this version works backup it by copying the whole 1946 folder.

You find a one step mega patch to this version on the SAS site:

Now with 4.12.2m you can:

-try out further official versions 4.13.xxx, 4.14. ....

-or you try the mods on SAS page:

-BAT mod, huge mod for offline gaming

-and many other mods for offline / online gaming

 

But keep always a clean backup 4.12.2m!

Cheers for that, much appreciated, I'll definitely give that a go

I installed the game from the original disk and was rather disappointed by the graphics, until I realised how old the game was. I uninstalled it and stuck back in the cupboard until I recently discovered all the patches and mods for IL-2 1946

There seems to be a lot of support and a different array of addons or mods made by the community. Are there any that are best for online gaming?

I am an offline gamer, but as far as I know the Ultra Pack (see SAS page) was optimized for online gaming.

But at first I would suggest to ask in the SAS forum and in this forum other online gamers, which program version / mod they use.

On my Computer it works with the 4th Sound Option for indirekt sound and the exe with the console.

And on my computer, the 1st sound option (DSOAL) did not work (il2fb.exe Console would begin to execute for a few seconds but then exit (about a second after the screenshot captured below):

 
However the other three sound options (DSOAL XP, Creative ALchemy, Indirect Sound) do seem to allow v4.15m to run.
