SR603-Flowbee Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 (edited) Trying to get back to skinning after a long break I came across this profile. Checked some period photos.. and came up with this... Download link... https://mega.nz/file/w9tFnTZb#iA_WK3V4yywD2tNkhTgj_SFV_mkYx-jSqfyOOGhDZPA I did also make one using RLM 63 83 for the upper surfaces (see pic below) as they were the closest match to the profile but it didn't look as nice. That is part of the subjective bit. The artist profile itself was an intepretation. The plane was most likely nearer to the colourisation image but I did it because it was different to the usual, that was the point. There are also many illustrations showing it in shades of RLM greys. I would like to see what Claes Sundin made of it as that in my opinion would come closest. I think if you click on the pics you will get the full resolution image. I didn't include a brief on Adolf Galland as I doubt that anybody needs one. I hope you'll check it out and maybe even like it. Edited July 30, 2022 by SR603-Flowbee 22 6 9
esk_pedja Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 Possibly the most famous and recorded Luftwaffe skin... alongside with Blond Knight (Hartman) skins... ? Your weathering art is top... Although I doubt that in "happy times" of Luftwaffe (1940) Galland's plane in France was that much weathered. 1
Yankee_One Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 (edited) Welcome back buddy! Nice to "see" you and your work again! As always, fantastic job on these ac. I found an error?? The pilot has no mustache?, only joking Edited July 30, 2022 by Yankee_One 1 1 1

That’s what I thought especially when doing the Franz von Werra skin. However looking closely at the period b/w photos of this aircraft and there are quite a few available online, they clearly tell a different story. All of them show significant dirt, stains and streaks, if not the somewhat indulgent paint chipping that I enjoy. I thought that even the 2 I chose to include made this very noticeable. From the RAF pilot stories passed onto me by friends this also held true for the Spifires in the Battle of Britain. It was an incredibly hard fought battle with no respite. The planes apparently were filthy during the battle and aircraft were turned around at absolutely maximum effort. The pilots themselves slept in their cockpits at times. There was no time for cleaning and the photos of the time backup this information. This is quite apart from my personal penchant for weathering. The paint wear however is another matter… 44 minutes ago, Yankee_One said: I found an error?? SR603-Flowbee Posted July 30, 2022 Author Posted July 30, 2022 I'm glad to be back and surprised and pleased with the positive response. I had six months+ problems with my computer eventually replacing practically every component some more than once. I even gave up and built a spare machine ready to go. At the last moment I got an inkling that the problems might be connected to an ethernet cable to the router. I disconnected it and used a wifi connection instead. All the intermittent crashes, corruptions, Windows System losses and plain weird stuff just stopped. Bizarre or what. Since then, due to my wife working at a health centre, I've also had Covid, then long covid and then Covid again. During that time I got into Airsoft as a way of getting exercise. It is a long hike to get to the site - through muddy woods, and up and down hills. Wasn't sure that I would ever go back to using photoshop and doing skins. Well so far so good. It is a good way of resting up aching muscles after all. 7
CUJO_1970 Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 The master has returned!!! Good to see you back Flowbee. 1
ciderworm Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 At one of my local pubs when a family turned up in an ancient 1920's Bentley. It looked like maybe 100 years of wear, scratches, faded paint and leather. Probably handed down from generation to generation. Only Flowbee could skin that. 1
Trooper117 Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 If only our talented skinner could find a way to remove that small nose cone on the propeller hub we could have that authentic E4 look...
Yankee_One Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 Now i can say that this skin is 100% accurate. Mustache included.?
