Badger8th Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Took me the better part of the day and I came damn close to giving up and returning it. I knew right off the bat that official support had been dropped, but I was fairly confident I could make it work due to poking around on here and Youtube. Setting the Eye Tracker 5 up for FS 2020 was so easy and simple, and it worked great. NOT SO MUCH with IL-2 lol. I spent this entire morning and afternoon just trying to get it working. What was bizarre is that I found a 7 month old Youtube video of someone with a Tobii 5 playing this game, and it looked like it was working perfectly. Naturally, this video had a ton of people in the comments asking for help on what the guy was using for setup, but he was clearly not responding. So I thought I had hit a dead end. Tobii as some of you know used vJoy for their implementation, so it only had 3DOF supported, so I had thought FaceTrackNoIR would be my best bet. Sadly when running that, I discovered I could move my head along X/Y/Z and some tilt, but no left/right and the tilt up/down was super janky, as multiple other forum posts have reported. So I thought to myself, since the Tobii app can look around, and FaceTrack can move my head, why not try both? It turns out, this actually works! Here are my steps: -As has been previously brought up on here before, you can't use the latest version of the Tobii Game Hub, as they dropped vJoy support. You have to download the old one first. https://files.update.tech.tobii.com/GameHub/TobiiGameHub.1.6.4-Setup.exe Once this is installed, you have to point it at the IL-2 Exe file and hit the initial configure button, which installs Vjoy. Now, I have Windows 11, so if you do too you'll probably get an error at this stage. After a lot of digging, I found this vJoy version on Github which works with Win11: https://github.com/jshafer817/vJoy/releases/tag/v2.1.9.1 So, I have my Tobii app, I have my vJoy working. That will get us 3DOF support, so we can look around the cockpit but not move our head. Enter FaceTrack NoIR: I used this Youtube vid as a setup guide This video will help you get all the plugins working. When setting up the .ini file for FaceTrackNoIR, you'll want to go into the Tobii Tracker settings and disable Roll, Pitch, Yaw, and Gaze (because Tobii game hub is handling that). You'll also need to invert X because otherwise it won't go left/right correctly, they'll be flipped on the default setting. Here's what my FaceTrack screen looks like currently: Now when I launch the game, I have both apps for the Tobii Game hub and FaceTrackNoIR running, and somehow it all works. I still have a lot of tweaks I need to make to my input curves, but already I'm loving the massive improvement to immersion this makes. ....Also now I don't have to return my Tobii 5 and go buy a TrackIR from a scalper. If the devs are out there, if you could work with Tobii on getting a proper implementation of native support for the device again, it would really be appreciated. Using this shouldn't be so complicated and when you play a supported game on it like Flight Sim it's just wonderful. I wish I didn't have to spend my whole day setting this up, but at least now hopefully someone can read this and learn from my trials. 2 1 1
BladeMeister Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Should have gotten TIR5, downloaded Requem's profile and been up and running in 10 mins or less about 10 years ago. But good for you, in the end you got the results you were looking for. S!Blade<>< 1 1
