I just opened mine up and removed those three "weight bars" from the inner base-plate to make the thing a bit less heavy. Those are 300g of dead weight, BTW.

Only then I realized that the throttle has two base-plates - one on top of the other and one of which seems totally superfluous and just makes the thing heavier. I'd like to take one off to reduce weight, but I fear that the screws' length is meant for two base-plates installed. If I leave the outer plate off, will I still be able to tighten the screws far enough to not have their heads protrude from the underside and without damaging the threads? Or would I need to get a set of shorter screws for that?

Thanks!

Just use washers?

Naw... won't work. I just tried removing the outer/lower plate and the threads aren't long enough to use with the stock screws - if I remove the lower plate and tighten the screws all the way, their heads will protrude by 2 or 3 mm. And I don't see how washers would help.

Either I'll have to cut down the screws or see if I can find identical ones that are a bit shorter. Too bad, cause I think that second plate is easily another 400 to 600g I could shave off this thing's insane weight ... :)
