Hello Pilots and Tankers!

Today’s Developer Diary is a video of a GREAT NEW FEATURE for the Great Battles series – Custom Input Profiles! This will allow you to create many different input profiles and pitch responses for your favorite planes and tanks and assign them to each one. The profiles will automatically load each time you jump into the cockpit. This has been a long-requested feature and we are happy that it is just about ready for release. It makes managing your Great Battles install a lot easier. We hope you like what you see in the video.

Sounds very promising! Can’t wait to try it out ^^

It's going to be very useful ?

Thanks, team

I'll definitely get a lot more out of the Dr.I now! My joystick layout wasn't ergonomic enough to make it easy for me to provide the constant elevator input!

Question: Are there any plans to eventually extend this to weapon convergence. Convergence could probably do with an overhaul to allow historically accurate convergences, but until then it'd be great if the game could remember a different convergence setting for each plane!

The cool feature is that multiple aircraft can share the same input profile or pitch profile. So you can create a "two-engines" input profile and simply assign all aircraft with two engines. Or a "tail-heavy" pitch profile and assign it to Fokker Dr1, Camel etc.

You can also create a profile per plane but I would be very careful with that now that we have so many planes in the game. It may prove to be a nightmare to maintain if you change controllers or a new control is added to the game.

When will the Me410 and Normandy map come out? I'm becoming very desperate haha. I'm just so excited!

And thanks for the custom input profile, will be extremely helpful especially for the Dr1.

Thank you @devteam for putting in so much time and effort in making this amazing game! :)

Cheers!

1)So when the next update arrives, will my current settings and plane control assignments be kept?

2)Where will the plane profiles be stored? What directory? I assume you can backup that file to be copied back to the game with no problem.

This is good to hear; thank you for working on this! Should give a lot more flexibility to pilots - especially us Flying Circus wingnuts. ?

Brilliant Jason and team, will have many a happy hour experimenting with this feature.

Flying circus planes as mentioned needs this.

Interesting to see what can be done with the WW2 editions.

Thanks. This looks good addition I can get much more out from my Kanttorin Kone Jabo-console:biggrin:.  Video also explains why I have had difficulties flying with DR1

Will we be able to save and shared the profiles?

I love you guys finally. Wow. And set neutral position was absolute necessity.

Since I have tons of input devices. Can you please make control setup to use usb name of the controller instead of joj1 to joj7 in my case. Or let us name them so that we can find it back.

Another feature that I'm dying to get is to get feedback in controls screen when I press an already mapped button that it snaps and highlights the mapped command.

Thanks again!

Excellent video. This new feature might get me to fly the WWI planes a little more often. The sim continues to evolve and improve. Thx.

Excellent!  One of the reasons I've held off getting Tank Crew is that when I tried to map my controllers for tanks, I ran into conflicts with various buttons and axis that messed up my airplane controls.  Now it looks like I can have a completely separate set of controls for ground vehicles, which solves that problem.  Really looking forward to trying this out!

It really is a great feature and yes, it does solve the problem of having conflicts between airplane and vehicle controls. ?

FANTASTIC!

But, how about 128 buttons per device?

This looks very useful, thank you Developers for your hard work

Nice, but  I suppose that many like me do fly one loved or preferred plane and then many occasional others but less often and this amelioration and personifications of controls even if very useful shall be used for one loved plane type or plane serie (like the Spitfire mkV to mkXIV) or all Me 109s. Not for twenty or so different planes. In any case  thank You for this very nice addition to the game and I hope that all this is saved in the same directory than the main input one?! Have a nice vacation time and in the hope to see soon the completion of this Normandy game, thanks for all the work done until now. Thanks and salutations. :salute:

Nice to see that it includes the Tank Crew vehicles.

I so want and need this!

One question regarding creating new profiles - just to clarify that I understood it correctly: When you create a new profile you clone the setting from the profile you called up before in the mapping options and not from the global default profile (can only happen when the global profile was called up before creating a new one)? Because f.e. if I want to add another custom two-engine profile I dont want it to be cloned from a one engine profile and vice versa.

This is a good point - I do not have my game on the C drive as I have a SSD for the O/s and prefer not to use it for other stuff. My game folder is on my D drive, that is where I would want my profiles to be stored?

It would be nice but the need decreases significantly with the custom profiles:

You can use the same inputs for different profiles: "dual engine" profile gets feathering and bomb bay controls to buttons that can be used for something else in plaenes with "fighter" profile, and reused again for "Jets" profile.

Again, not a full solution but it's a relief.

Very nice enhancment!  I used this capibility (pitch adjustment) extensivly in ROF and it worked great.  Will all the files still be in the input folder for backup purposes?    Thanks!

This will be a good step forward for the sim over all.  With more and more new aircraft, often that have different control schemes and button/axis assignments, and our controllers not magically sprouting more buttons and levers, this will help ease the madness that assigning controls is starting to become.

It's been given up on. So close but just threw it out the window. It's been replaced with the DFS-230 but no planes have been programmed towing capabilities so its just air spawn at one location far away from the front lines on one map so it can't even be used really.

What a useful feature! Especially getting twin engine planes etc set up right. Not to mention the gun „management“ on WW1 crates that ends up in odd places for the function to work with mist WW2 birds. Great stuff! :good:

Should be a HUGE QOL update.

Being able to have seperate binds for early/late war and radial/water cooled will be a huge help.

I have had continual problems on takeoff with The Hs-129, both versions of the Ju-88 and now the Mosquito - will I be able to address these problems of nearly uncontrollable swing on takeoff with the custom response feature? How would that work?

No curves for that. You just have to use coarse rudder inputs before the plane starts to veer off course. If you use a lot if power right away, then differential braking will help you initially. If you let the aircraft swing and get momentum, you become a passenger.

Quit slamming the throttle to the stops on takeoff…..ease them up a little at a time to proper takeoff speed….plane will just lift off the ground nice and easy.
