The p-40 engine issues

I've been having a blast flying this thing in the little campaign the game comes with in Tobruk. Only issue is I have flown two missions and each time by the flight home I blow the engine up. I am keeping it at rated settings and yet somehow I still seemingly keep blowing it up. Especially the last one caught me off guard cause I really tried to keep it below the operating thresholds. Engine just seizes up on the flight home. Is there a fuel switch I am missing? I am not getting any engine damaged notifications or anything the motor just starts rumbling and then eventually cuts off. Any tips?

Sounds like a fuel starving issue.

There is a fuel switch left of your left knee starting in "fuselage" position that you can flip to reserve tank and wing tanks.

I usually set it to "wing" before takeoff and return it to "fuselage" when engine starves or I actually notice the tank is below 5 gal.

Wing tank indicator is pretty hard to see as it's below the seat on your left leg but putting the mouse over it you see the "fuel reserve (X gal)" tooltip as shown in attached picture.

Hi JonRedcorn,

I don't fly Tomahawks or Kittyhawks too much so it's just a guess.

Did you check your fuel gauge?

If an engine is not damaged and it starts coughing and then stops, it looks like there is no fuel in a tank which is selected. Try to switch to other fuel tank.

Just as a note it was indeed my lack of fuel tank modulation causing the issues. Flew a long sortie no problem last night. Went through almost all 3 tank settings. I don't even know how I was making it as far as I did not switching it at all before. Do the tanks effect the balance of the plane at all? It kind of felt like it did.

Yes, filling the tanks 100% affect the center of gravity.

In the manuals for the aircraft it notes normal fuel load is less than 100%.

Also wanted to see what the SOP was for which tanks to drain first. Thanks for the info! Love this sim!
