ATA_Vasilij Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 HI there, I play many years. Since first IL2. I know what to set and how to setup settings to make game good playble. BUT. Since last two updates, the game is very bad running on my PC. (Specs: Ryzen 7 5800x and rx5700xt, 16GB, ) I have VR. in cockpit now I have 45-60 fps which is bad. The game is not good. I used to have 90, now 45. :( The FPS wetn DOWN about 30 fps compared the game a year ago. Before the last 2 updates. I tried everything. Reinstall system, reinstall game. change bios, tried both win 10 and 11 . nothing helped. I have stuttering in game. maps are not fluent, lags and microfreezing. DOes anybody of you experience the same? Is the game so badly optimized, that in VR is not playable anymore? Thx for any helps. advices and so on... 1
ShamrockOneFive Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 Generally speaking IL-2 is probably the best optimized of the four sims that I regularly fly. No, I haven't noticed any performance degradation at all.
Majpalmer Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 No issues here, either. But I'm not using VR. Why not try itr without VR and see if the problems persist. Is it something about your system, or your VR?

If you're running VR and your frames went from 90 to 45 it would suggest that something might have changed with your pc's settings. What headset are you using?
spreckair Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 I seem to have the same problem. I am running an HP Reverb G2 on an I7-11700 with an RTX 3080. My FPS also dropped from the 80 to 90 levels to 45. I was thinking that it is a setting issue, but I haven't yet solved the problem.
The_Ant Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 No problem here in vr.On a Rift-s and a 3080,Settings set to max.and hittting 70-90 fps,never noticed a difference,since update..
Skycat1969 Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 A few weeks ago my game became unplayable in VR (ie, very low frames, choppy motion) after I installed the newest Nvidia Game Ready driver. I had to roll back through a couple of versions until my game returned to normal performance. I'm currently using Nvidia drivers version 512.15. My GPU is RTX 2080 Ti. My VR headset is Reverb G2. I used to install every new Nvidia driver version, but then two consecutive releases early this year broke Prepar3D. I was holding at a version that worked and I honestly don't remember why I installed the new release.
jollyjack Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 (edited) I went back to NVDIA 496.13 version for my 3080ti a while ago, but forgot why LOL ... . runs fine, swear to avoid further updates. No VR BTW. Maybe AMD GPUs have also driver issues? seen this?: Edited July 17, 2022 by jollyjack
Jade_Monkey Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 I did notice a degradation in performance with more frequent "hiccups", like a frame drop every 3 mins or so. The odd thing is that the smoke animations get interrupted and restart, so a long trail of engine smoke will have a gap in the middle etc. System: RTX 3080, Ryzen 3700x, 32 GB RAM, vive Pro 2. 1
easterling77 Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 (edited) Recently upgraded to Ryzen 9 5950X and 64G Ram and I have no issues so far....GPU is to be updated next month (for now it's a 2080 super) Edited July 17, 2022 by easterling77
RossMarBow Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 (edited) I have basically the same setup as you But don't play in VR No problems EDIT: actually today I ran into a weird thing that sounds similar to your issue game play FPS was down and it was telling me I was getting 90 FPS but everything was super stutter so about a 30 fps drop but it was running like shit stopped and restarted the recording I was doing using the AMD recorder problem went away regarding jade monkey and the smoke thing its a quirk in the engine that has existed forever basically you can simplify how it works to this if you have already "seen" the smoke the smoke will keep happening but theirs a gap in the rendering distance so you can see the engine smoke of someone you watched taking off but you can't see the engine smoke of someone at the same distance but who started further away its effect is that engine smoke plays no role in long range spotting because you have to be so close before it renders back on topic have you benchmarked other games/benchmarks? Asgar Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 (edited) Nothing like that, in fact the last couple patches I had the best performance in VR yet Edited July 17, 2022 by Asgar
RedeyeStorm Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 I have a Valve Index I7 9900K and GTX 3080, 32 Mb memory and Windows 10. Never had any issues in VR performance.
ATA_Vasilij Posted July 17, 2022 Author Posted July 17, 2022 (edited) Thx, all for responses. I have HP Reverb G2 (new cable already installed) It was running well before the updates. Without VR evertything runs perfect on 140 fps. Cannot be compared. VR needs double of pc resources, than monitor play. SOme of you said that also have problems, so lets look what is the same in our setups. is it HP, or AMD mtb? edit: Yes, I tried benchmark(heaven benchmark 4.0), everything runs perfect. What runs badly is IL2 with VR Edited July 17, 2022 by ATA_Vasilij 1

X-Plane is the weirdest/coolest where you can keep the sim rate at 1x but the landscape flies past at 8x or whatever you want it to go at. DCS can be squirrely. MSFS crashes sometimes when I do it. And IL-2 has time dilation. They are all adorable in their own unique way 30 minutes ago, ATA_Vasilij said: What runs badly is IL2 with VR That I can't help with. I'm running in 2D with a 4K monitor. There may be some VR specific things that you might need to do to get things going well.
JonRedcorn Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 A rule of thumb I've followed for years is if you have a driver that's working perfectly do not update. There's no need, unless a new driver has a new feature you'd like to try you are just running the risk of messing everything up. I know some people like to update to every single new driver that comes out to which I never understood the point if everything is working correctly. 1
