ScubaSam Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Hi everybody, I am toying with the idea of a soviet fighter career starting with an "unknown" squadron (ideally in the I-16 for extra crate appeal) and "working my way up" to a more renowned one, but I found myself wondering whether all the fancy titles associated with Soviet squadrons are dynamic and change over the course of the campaign, allowing you to follow a squadron's rise to Guards aviation glory (and some fancier aircraft!) rather than switching squadrons. So far I've found one example looking at the start of the Battle of Moscow, where it looks like 29th IAP become 1st GIAP part way through that campaign, picking up some extra shiny bits on their banner in the process. If so this is a really cool detail! Does anybody know if there are any other famous squadrons like this who started out as "unknowns" at the time of Moscow and later become Guards aviation regiments across Moscow / Stalingrad / Kuban?
PB0_Roll Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 Dunno if they're in game, but 145 iap to 19th giap is another.
PatrickAWlson Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 I think they change names based on history, so it would not be dynamic in a campaign.
ScubaSam Posted July 18, 2022 Author Posted July 18, 2022 Thanks - I was indeed thinking historically, wondering if there are any other examples. The two mentioned above plus one naval squadron on the Kuban map are what I've found so far.
