King_Hartmann Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Hi flying buddies, I have a question about how the destroy count in the game. I was playing single player scripted campaign. I noticed that there are several situations the system will display a text that "[my pilot name destroyed [plane name]]", and those situation after I check the tacview I cannot understand. Could anyone can explain or it's normal behaviour? - When I shot enemy plane with critical damage such as the whole wing ripped off the plane body/ just exploded when crashed into earth, which is a certain killed. NORMAL for me obviously - When I shot the enemy plane to heavy damaged and its pilot bailed out. NORMAL for me obviously as well. - When the plane damaged, I can see the green smoke from the plane. I checked the tacview it flew somewhere far away and land. I saw the destroy message when it landed which is long time after I gave a hit to it. NOT NORMAL for me. Is it depend on which side it landed? An inside/beyond line question? But it seems landed in their own airfield. - I shot a plane, it was a hit from tacview but it can still fly in my cockpit view. My wingman gave it a fatal punch. It crashed into land. Destroy message had shown and it indicated it was my kill. I couldn't understand. NOT NORMAL for me. That raised a question for me, sometimes I zoom & boom an attack plane not very successfully but after several minutes I got a kill and I have no idea why I got a kill. Not really bothering me as I know what I had done but I am curious about it. Great thanks for any explanation / discussion

This always surprised me as well for getting credit for somebody's else kill in SP.
BlitzPig_EL Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 (edited) In your latter scenarios, the game calculated that you did a higher percentage of damage to the enemy plane, even though the AI laid the final blow, and awarded you the kill. That's how the game calculates it. This is also how it works in multiplayer. It keeps people from popping a round into a plane that is going down or soon will be and sniping a kill they had nothing to do with. Game mechanics at work. Edited July 13, 2022 by BlitzPig_EL 2

RyanR Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 (edited) The game is pretty lenient with kills. One funny loop hole I discovered when doing escort IL-2 missions was to put a couple 7.62's into a ground target with whatever fighter I was in. When an AI Sturmovik blew that target up, I'd get credit for a truck. -Ryan Edited July 13, 2022 by RyanR
