Hi Gents.

Don`t laugh at me too hard  .. ?

But  have a real Noob problem:     Ich  changed today from my RiftS  to a Reverb G2 V2.

With my "old" RiftS the IL-2 Game in VR opened automaticely when I started the Game.

But with my Reverb I can not see the Game in the VR-Goggle. I see only the VR suite.

What is my fault ?

Do I need with the Reverb Steam VR too ?

Already thanks for Yor advices

Cheers

1 - install Steam VR for Windows Mixed Reality

2 - launch the WMR Portal.  Make sure you can look around freely and in particular that you can move your head forwards/backwards as if this step is skipped you can sometimes get this weird effect in cockpit that as you move your head the cockpit moves with you.

3 - launch Steam VR for Windows Mixed Reality

4 - do not launch Steam VR

5 - launch iL-2.  You will be given an option to start in VR or 2D.  Your choice.

if you run Necksafer, launch that before the sim.

If you still are having problems it might be artifacts left over from Rift-S but fingers crossed....

Would love to hear what you think about the G2 compared to the Rift S. I found the Rift S resolution marginally too low, and I also noticed the FOV was a bit too narrow for comfort in a flight sim. Any observations you have would be most welcome.

I just snagged a G2 a couple of weeks back when it went on sale at HP for $399. Was the same price I'd paid for the Rift S when I bought that a few years ago. Really wanted the better resolution and couldn't refuse the G2 at that price.

I can say the resolution vs the RiftS is night and day way better. No screen door effect and near perfect clarity. You can read everything on the instrument panels clearly without zooming in. The FOV isn't a whole lot different. One of the dings about it is a small "sweet spot" but I'm getting used to it. The FOV doesn't appear to me to be a whole lot different than the Rift S. Seems smaller ATM but I'm still waiting on my lens inserts which will allow me to get closer to the lenses. The increased resolution comes at a price tho. You'll need some extra horsepower to push that in IL-2 so you might notice reduced FR unless you have a higher end GPU.

It's lightweight and very comfortable. I still prefer the halo strap that the Rift S has but it's not bad at all. Just getting used to taking it on and off. The strap is attached to the headset with an elastic velcro band. I'd imagine over time that might get stretched over time. Or not.

The other ding is about tracking of the hand controllers. I'm just a simple flight sim guy and hardly use them anyway so that's a nothing burger for me.

Overall, vs the Rift S, the G2 blows it away.

Yeah Reverb G2 is really the best bang for the buck headset that is out there. I don't see that changing anytime soon either. I sold my G2 a few weeks ago. If did not have my Vive Pro 2 and Index still that both work with my Index controllers and stations that I use with Aero, I would have held on to the G2. Reverb G2 is still one of the most preferred headsets for flight simmers I believe.

I'd add that the small sweet spot ding with the G2 is really mitigated if you're using either VR or XR NeckSafer. So much easier to look around and just point that sweet spot where you need that accuity.

I too went from a Rift S to a G2 about a year or so ago. As you've probably read by now, both of those (FOV, sweetspot) improve somewhat by using a different/shallower facial interface/gasket bringing your eyes closer to the screen. Also a counterweight on the rear helps keep it balanced so you can keep the lateral straps rather loose and don't push it on your face as much. For wearing it easier: if you have longish hair you might want to consider a skullcap/bandana from some light/breathable material (the ones made for wearing under a cycling helmet are good) - you kinda have to wear the HMD like a scuba mask, plop it on your face and pull the rear part over your head so some annoying hair pulling can occur.

It also helps if you route the cable over the top and tie it down to the rear with a decent amount of slack so the plug doesn't flex or get pulled. Kinda like this:

On that you can also see a piece of hard leather I added to the strap so it distributes the pressure on the top of my head.

Nice! I had a great pad set from AMVR for the Rift S that replaced all the plain foam with pleather faced foam front and back that was easily cleaned. I see you have replaced your face pad with one. I have as well. I'm not about that plain foam. Figure it'll get icky fast and start crumbling before too long. Sadly, no full on G2 kit for the rear pads and I haven't found a decent replacement for the strap. There was one but most of the reviews said it was crap. I'm thinking about the apache counterweight kit, tho. I haven't had the hours with it yet to decide if it's bugging me enough. I figured out putting it on and taking it off was like you described which was pretty much the reverse of the Rift S.

I have my cable routed opposite of yours. I have a pair of velcro straps anchoring it to the strap but the cable exits to the rear and upwards. The cable is suspended above me with a pulley system. I only do sims so I'm always seated and not moving around much. Hopefully, that'll extend the life of this cable as it did with the Rift S cable that I never needed to replace.
