AI in U-2VS career

Hi guys,
I have some fun flying the U-2VS (navigating without any help by night, then sweating approaching the objectives) but I do not understand the AI pilots.
I fly as leader of my squadron so I start first but never see the other pilots of my squadron above the objectives. Besides I notice they are always all dead.
So I decided to start at 3rd place. I take off after the 2 first pilots and I see that they do not manage to gain altitude and after some time they crash. They start with the same equipment as me (4 bombs). When they have only 2 bombs (50kg - or lbs) they manage to gain altitude and to attack.
Do you encounter the same problem with the AI pilots?

To be noted also: if I use the AP, it is the same, it is unable to keep me straight at the same altitude when I have 4 bombs (due to the fact it does not use 100% of the power, while 100% means, when loaded, that the RPM remain below 2700, which seems reasonable)
