So many gun jams!

The guns are useless since the last update. I get a 10 round burst <jam> clear that and another short burst <jam> over and over.  Way overdone.

Seems like it changed with the last update to me as well, but informed by LukeFF that nothing was changed.....

Perhaps nothing "Intentionally" changed might be more accurate?

Time will tell I suppose..

I was told a long, long time ago.............there are no jams, just misfires..........

For what that is worth. (Obviously the ammunition manufacturer isn't top shelf. Even my loads are a lot more dependable)  ?

Nope, they are two entirely different things.

Unit-level weapon maintenance was part of my responsibilities while in the Army, so I'm very familiar with the various categories/reasons of how and why small arms can fail to fire.

A misfire is typically one of three things:

  • Dud round (round doesn't fire)
  • Squib load (round doesn't have enough velocity to exit the barrel)
  • Hangfire (round fires but with a significant delay)

Of those, ROF and FC only models hangfires

A jam can be any number of other things, like a double-feed, stovepipe round-ejection, twisted belt, mechanical malfunction of the bolt assembly, etc. In other words, they are causes that are distinctly separate from a misfire and point to some sort of mechanical malfunction with the weapon.

Yep, and both mean you can't fire your gun without using "unjam/reload" button..  both result in same issue in this game and require same player action to resolve.

Are any of these (Squib, hangfire) modeled in the game?  Or is this just unrelated to actual game play?

I will clarify.......

I was informed that misfires ARE modeled, and jams ARE NOT in this sim.

IRL misfires can be cleared. Jams may or may not, it depends on the type of jam. Squibs are another story, with an obstructed barrel, clearing it, (ejecting the spent case) and firing it again still obstructed, you just opened up a can of worms.

Understand the real life difference.  Only talking game play.  My understanding is that in this game, it is an irrelevant difference. US Army infantry veteran.

I suppose I'm a little bit frustrated by Luke's response. Myself and others were trying to notify the devs of an issue.  In return, we get schooled of the real life difference between misfire and jam instead of taking the notification of a game play issue seriously.

As it relates to game play, this appears to be a distinction without relevance.  That's all I have to say regarding this.  It was fixed a while ago, and I thanked the devs for that.

My point was never to frustrate anyone but to just educate people on the difference between a jam and and a misfire. Nothing more, nothing less. ?

(Kinda like those yokels who call a magazine a clip). ?
