How to chat in MP when in VR

What it the best way to chat or respond to messages in chat while you are flying in VR?

 

Voice recognition software, virtual keyboard? Radio silence?

 

It feels bad not being able to respond to people addressing me. On the other hand removing the headset to find the keyboard and write something is kind of suicidal in MP as for time for the eyes to adapt.

I never actually got around to trying this, but check it out:

 

(Every time I think I’ll try setting up the above for my next MP session, I am quickly reminded of what some of the most vocal chatters type into MP chat, and I realize I’m just better off flying and ignoring the chat ?

 

Instead I just encourage someone to join me on Discord or SRS)

You'd have to pay me to read that garbage.  If I could shut it off I would, but have ignored it for so long don't think I'm even aware its there anymore.

Yesterday a guy was thanking me for the assist and needing assistance to RTB and i could not answer. This made me think about using the chat.

I've experienced this myself, and felt the same.  But I'm now leaning towards making them feel bad for not using SRS instead, because on the server I use (CB) they mostly use SRS so it's kind of counter productive to be encouraging others to stay off SRS.  Everyone is very friendly and helpful on SRS, with bonus that rarely there's chit-chat like what you see on text channel, it's more realistic in that you hear only updates and short responses to it in an informative manor.

 

SRS is so easy to use for these servers now because they directly support it and encourage it's use, so it takes less effort for the new guys to hookup SRS then it does for us in VR to do otherwise.

 

Sorry to all you text-lovers but as the Crunch said; we very rarely even see your inputs.  It's not that we're being anti-social.

SRS is also a little bit of a pain in VR, no overlay and you don t know on which channel you are. You need to activate the text to speech, and messages from the tower/command are not always crystal clear. I wish they would put subtitles to it.
