I have had every TIR since the initial offering and never had one fail. Did you run a Windows update lately? I would speculate something is amiss with windows or even the TIR software.

Hi

I updated the geforce nvidia driver just before it stopped working, so that may be the cause. Would it work again if I went back to the restore point just before the update?

Thx for showing an interest.

Does the software start?

Going back the the last restore point might be worth trying before trying before a reinstall of the NP software.

If that doesn't work then I would go to NaturalPoint's web sight  https://www.trackir.com/downloads/

and download the 5.4.2 driver. I would uninstall your current NP software, restart your rig and then install that new NP driver following NP's instalation instructions:

(3.4 Software and Hardware Installation
Note : For best results, we recommend installing the TrackIR Software before you connect the TrackIR hardware)

and see what happens.

Don't forget to back up your profiles from:

the drive you installed TIR5 to\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\Profiles (usually this is the drive Windows is on)

before uninstalling the old software and then installing the new software.

Good luck Sir.

Of course the TIR5 hardware could be broken as you suspected, but giving the last restore point and/ or the the driver a try is a small amount of time well spent IMHO.

The only restore point it will let me use is when I installed TrackIR the last time, not before the geforce update ?, unless there is another way you can specify the date and time?

I found a post from a mod on the NaturalPoint forum on how to uninstall and re install, but that didn't work.

When I run compatibility troubleshooter, it says      incompatible program         not fixed

So how do I make it compatible again? Any ideas gratefully accepted.

use USBdeview to see and deinstall USB drivers no longer active.

Also possibly uninstall one more time, restart computer and then right click on TIR5 driver installer and install as administrator. When done, right click on the TIR5 shortcut and make sure that it has full admin rights under the security tab and then start it as admin also. Do you use a USB hub? If so try plugging TIR5 directly into your rig, or into a different USB port than you normally do. Do you have another computer or laptop in the house to try to install it on?

Also this almost sounds like that error could be caused by a anti virus security software being used and locking down the software.

The camera is detected by the pc

I'v tried different usb ports direct to pc back

I have another pc and TrackIR 5 works on that ok but I don't use it for flying

I've had advice to remove all nvidia drivers using Driver Display Uninstaller and use NVcleanstall to put the driver I have used before the update back in. I'm a bit wary of this as I don't interact well with technology and feel I'll end up with a pc that won't even start! (I've had bad experiences in the past with pcs).

Do you still have the previous Nvidia driver? If so simply uninstall the new driver and install the older driver. If TIR5 works on your other PCs now then it is not the Hardware or the NP driver. Go on the Natural Point website and put in a help request ticket before you do anything else. Also Google "TIR5 not working after Nvidia driver install" and start looking to see if others are having the same problem.

Read page 2, mid way down for a detailed uninstall and installation process. Do this step by step and hopefully your situation will be solved.

NP Forum TIR5 not working re-installation procedure

Hope this works for you Sir.

I put a post on NaturalPoints forum when it happened, just found out that other ppl with the same problem solved it by rolling back the driver, I shall gird up my loins and see what I can do.

Yeah I followed the re installation on the forum to the letter, didn't work for me

Thx for the help and support

Hang in there. It usually takes a while to get tech help from any big company these days. If NP is a Company in the USA(?) then don't forget it is the 4th of July Holiday weekend here, so probably no support help until Tuesday at the soonest. I honestly think it is a Windows or Antivirus software conflict conflict. At least you know the hardware works. What OS do you use? Be patient and with NP's help you will get it working again. Keep us up to date on your progress please.

It was surprisingly easy to roll back the driver, and that fixed the problem TrackIR works again.?

There's a topic on Nvidia forum, lots of ppl are having lots of different problems with the driver that just updated.

Rolling back seems the best solution.?

Can you please list the link to that Nvidia Forum thread here. You certainly will not be the only one that this will happen to.

Thanks in advance and I am glad you got it fixed. A little time spent rooting out the problem saved you another 150$.:good:

NVDIA, i have 496.13 still, works fine.

516.40 seems to work OK, but what are the benefits?

It seems later versions crash your TrackIR5 software ...

Yes the latest nvidia driver has caused a number of different problems for ppl, but not everyone, all the others in my squad have had no problems with launching TrackIrwith the latest driver.

Its amazing to me that people will immediately jump to replacing $150 equipment because of a basic software issue.

TrackIR is super old tech. I have had one for 20 yrs.

I upgraded a few months ago to Tobii Eyetracker and it's awesome.

  • No need for mounting antennas on your headset nor do you need to wear a hat all the time anymore.
  • The gizmo supports head and eye tracking.
  • Super cooler design, very neat footprint and fully natively support by most games (...except IL-2 GB as Tobii has moved away from using vJoy).

The only possible drawback is that you cannot mount it behind you like you definitely can with TrackIR.

TrackIR - old and busted. Tobii Eyetracker - new hotness!
