Help with Jumo 004 flameouts AR234/Me262

Gents, 

 

What is the trick or procedure to restarting the engines on the Arado/262 after a flameout please?

 

Learning this machine I've often gone under 6k RPM on the turbine and leaned out an engine (or 2!), but so far haven't been able to restart it. 

 

Also, is there any gauge or indication of some sort when you are near to flameout? It seems at 1.5k alt or so you can cut throttle no problem but I don't know when exactly you can do that...

I must say I didn't fly the Arado yet, and only seldom the 262. However, provided they are modelled acurately, which I don't  doubt, the only way to treat these early jet engines is to move the throttles like you would move china with boxing gloves, that is verrrrrrrry slowly and with maximum care. Provided you do this, you should be safe from most flameouts.

You need to press the engine ignition switch, like on the 262 (I think it's rightshift-E by default?).

 

But yeah, it's a hassle. Of the four or so restart attempts I've done since I figured out the approximate procedure, one succeeded while two didn't and another one ended in an engine fire.

I've not had problems with flameouts too much, but down-in-flames is much more common problem for me.

If you want to prevent a flame out try not to drop the EGT under 400. I think flame out occurs around 350 so if you keep it around 400 minimum you should be safe ;)

Jet engines are to forgiving in game, even Il-2 1946 had more truble with jet engines then here

Admittedly I don't fly the jets too often, but I treat them as constant speed engines.  Slowly move the throttle up for take off roll, then pretty much leave it there, only making very minor adjustments near full throttle to keep it at max constant rpm/temps below the red.

 

These things are all about speed.  If you have to pull back on the throttle you are A: On finals for landing, or, B: Doing it wrong.

as to OPs original question: main condition for a restart is you have to be below 4000m

You can advance the throttle as fast as you like above 6,000 rpm, but (unless using the fuel valve mod on the 262) you need to throttle back very be slowly to keep em running.

Close. 405-410°C. Below this EGT, flame out occurs. and only if you approch this temperature slowly. If the EGT drop is quick, then around 450°C flameout will happen. So above 450°C is safe.

4000m is the upper limit for safe restarts(in game), but(in game) it is possible to restart at higher altitudes, though it gets tricky the higher you are.
