The skin viewer probably loads GTP-ed skins as well, is there a way to avoid that? Or empty some cache memory file?

 

I get the feeling that the Mosquito double skins in the GTP are named wrongly.

Example, there's mosquitofbmkvis2_skin_09#1.dds and mosquitofbmkvis2_skin_09#1#1.dds.

 

According Haluter's skinning info that should be mosquitofbmkvis2_skin_09&1.dds and mosquitofbmkvis2_skin_09&1#1.dds.

You can put whatever prefix you WANT in the name, as long as one is ()1 and ()1#1. HSD just happened to choose the &.

The Viewer doesn't have any choice but to load the gtp files, they're the games default and are the files to which everything in-game refers to.

Sill a bit puzzled, my skins folder has only my own skins. My skins folder has the &1 and the &1#1 names alright:

Further checking on this: the viewer shows all these skins as present (my ... data\graphics\skins folder has only my own skins):

What i don't get is why the 09 numbered skin has a different name (RNZAF) for the (name)#1.dds file.

This while the extracted Skins21.GTP file has only these, and skin 01-09 in the list above seem to be loaded from somewhere else:

PS can it be that language settings have something to to changing the ## type? They seem different:

There's an internal map in the game's code that converts the skin name to the text string you see (RZNAF, Day Fighter, etc) when it iterates through the official skins*, only it doesn't contain the secondary skin file since that mechanism was added later so that also appears. At some point they'll likely amend the function in the viewer that reads the files and assigns names to hide the secondary skin much like the game does in the skin selection UI. I have a feeling they left it as is for the time being so you can see if you've forgotten to make the secondary file since the viewer doesn't currently have a way to inform you of such omissions.

 

* this probably happens via the game's localization mechanism - so an entry in the mapping table with a key of mosquitofbmkvis2_skin_9 is co-related to a string with "RZNAF"

Thanks, also irritating with the ones marked 'blank' in the name doing nothing one needs in the viewer.

 

Viewer needs an overhaul IMO, ?, vehicles etc, maybe ships and other items too. Paint the balloons too for someones birthday?
