One thing I appreciate about the development of this game!

With all the developments and updates, it can of course be made looking stunning on high end systems yet to this day you can still have it run smooth whilst looking pleasant on old systems.

I do a lot of moving about and travelling, so years ago I originally decided I'd go for a gaming laptop, however I found the prices exorbitant considering it wouldn't be upgradable.

In the end I decided to build a mini desktop computer which could fit in a normal backpack. This thing (and Il2) has been with me to China, Japan, New Zealand and England - in my backpack.

I put an i3-6100 (still going on it) and have swapped 2 or 3 VGA cards out over time. It is now running a GTX1660.

This is far from the specs most are running and it runs the game constant 60fps (Vsync) on 'ultra' settings with a few bits and pieces turned down.

In conclusion, I think it's awesome you can decide to either throw a boatload on a high end system and make this game look incredible, or spend very little on and still have it run very playable ?

Out of curiosity, what peripherals did you pack with it?

At first I thought it was a Pepsi advertisement incorporating the perspective between common objects and the height of Hobbits. But that's daft unless Jackson's bringing out another one? And then I read the text. I have a mid range rig or less by todays standards and it still plays as well as Bilbo describes. I also have a gtx1660 still running fine. That is a very good thing for persons of less affluential means. And of a casual player perhaps, still interested but not to the extent of a kind of obsession with the latest gadgetry and peripherals.

Just a T-16000m stick. I put the computer near the bottom of the backpack wrapped in a towel, sit the stick on top of the computer and then place clothes and stuff around the stick.

Unless my memory fails me, the game actually runs better than when it was released. I've only upgraded once since and of course use higher settings now than back then, but everything just feels a lot more optimized, you know, loading times, FPS, stutters and all that.

It runs better indeed, as many optimizations have been made over the years to improve the game engine technology.

It has improved and kept up the visual quality over the years without sacrificing the performance. The challenge to maintain the sim to a good visual experience and at the same time improve many of the other aspects is a big challenge. Having a stunning visual quality only does not make it. We always want everything to perfection (that is normal), and more recent products on the market can be a challenge when comparing with some particular aspects where they may be better, but I think that the dev team has been able to find a good balance on all the aspects which finally makes it for an excellent experience, otherwise they would not have lasted for so long, and still continue developing new extensions.

agreed with all, it runs great and really appreciate it esp those of us who dont live the first world lifestyle and can afford the latest gtx20,000 with 2 tb of ram (east asia represent). some other unoptimized aviation themed top gun-esque games other the hand.... $200 of aircraft i wont be flying for a while if ever again.
