So, after the 4.703 patch the sun went from ok to a 5000w bulb. Can we please do something about this and have your beta testers with the HP Reverb G2 using a Nvidia card give you a report?

I can tell you it causes my eyes to water, and I am using OpenXR toolkit with sunglass setting to max with the G2 Reverb tweaked to the point trees in a snow map are just black and you can barely see the dials just so the sun doesn't leave me with eye damage.  (added ) This is extreme on snow maps sun rise or sun set, and any map sun rise or sun set to 11am and after 2pm then back to hell.

I would suggest disabling HDR. HDR really messes with brightness as it tries to keep it uniform across the screen, this can lead to increased blinding by the sun - plus it chips away at your framerate a tad.

Also if you are going to be correcting colours/brightness/contrast with the OpenXR Toolkit it is best if you leave the in-game gamma to 1.0 and only use the toolkit's controls, the brightness setting in there is a gamma adjustment.

There was a discussion when 4.703 came around both in the release thread and in a thread in this subforum and the devs did reduce the effect especially when viewed through clouds/haze.

I have tried HDR off. Again, I am having to make the game look like garbage just to work around the issue with the sun. There is NO way this was tested by someone with a 3080 TI or better in the Hp Reverb G2. I have only had one HP Reverb G2 player say it was fine and they had an ATI card. Now I have seen many bugs in this game but this one is not even been discussed. They just did an update for a joystick that hasn't be made in 10 years. Yet they didn't address this issue.

I didn't test it, but I have a 3080Ti and a G2 and as you can see in the threads I link below I was pretty vocal about it until it got toned down. Currently, IMO, it is on par with the effect you get on screen - before it was way overdone for VR when compared to the screen rendering, due to the limited FOV you had nowhere to hide in VR.

Not so sure how turning off HDR (which is basically an adaptive brightness filter) makes the game look like garbage since it's the same graphics and same colors with or without HDR.

It had its own thread here:

And here:

And in the latter part of this thread:

And a lengthy discussion distributed amongst the release thread here:

So, what are they doing about it? Any progress. PS new info on openxr toolkit 1.1.4

I also find the sun painfully bright in my Reverb G2, HDR off and gamma at .8. Sun over-brightness was addressed in a recent update but has become nearly dangerously bright again in this latest update.

Ya and somehow it seems worse. The new patch over all was good on many other issues but not the sun.
