Dear community,

I am a total novice with mission editor and would need the support of people with more expertise.

I am trying to fix a problem on some missions I inherited, all the missions seem to have the briefing map with the maximum zoom in, hence not displaying anything relevant till zooming out manually. The extreme zoom seems to be on the player plane/combat area.

Is there anywhere in mission editor where to predefine the level of zoom on the briefing map?

The mission are the missions in these packs: http://www.mediafire.com/file/nsy79i27ub5apmw/Big+Quick+Missions+Pack.7z

From this thread:

Thank you very much in advance,

y.

I'm not aware of anything you can do to change this.

If it's a 'dogfight' map (i.e. for multiple players), the briefing map should automatically center around the maps defined AF's.

I don't play single 'missions' that often so I'm not sure about them, although I think your designated AF should certainly be on the initial briefing map.

Hopefully one of the more expert ME chaps will be along shortly with a more concise answer.

Thanks for the answer, I was referring to STE -  Mission Editor.

The map is centered but with zoom to maximum, to a point where  I cannot see any cities without zooming out. So each time I go to the briefing map during the flight, i first  need to zoom out for a while.

I've seen this happen when there is only one airfield on the map. It centers on that airfield zoomed in. Just adding another airfield some distance away from the first fixes it for me. This is on dogfight missions, but I would think it would work on SP missions.

edit: I should clarify that I'm talking about player AF's, not just the default AF's on the map. A couple of small pictures showing the initial zoom, 1st is with only one player AF, 2nd has a neutral AF added.

I have several enemies airfield but only 1 friendly airfield, could this be the issue?

I guess it could be, I'm not familiar with creating SP missions. The two AF's in the example pic were created using the fakefield from the airfield selection in the ME.

Which pic are you referring to?

EDIT: now i see it!

I will have to learn how to add neutral airfield.

Just use the fakefield and click "create linked entity". Unless you then change it it will be neutral.

I have 5 airfields in the mission:

- 3 have created linked entity (1 neutral, 1 friendly, 1 enemy), that i could delete by clicking

- 2 have no entities created, for which I could create by clicking

Still full zoom in the briefing map when I start the game.

i add a 2nd friendly airfield and it did not change.

The extreme zoom is not on the airfied, it is on the combat area or player plane area, cannot determine which exactly.

I completed the initial post for more clarity.

I can't take a look right now, but I guess it could be an SP mission thing? Maybe someone else will comment.

My experience (but I exclusively make singleplayer missions) is that it zooms in to the flight path. So, that's friendly Icon MCU's with their Line Type set to Positions 1 and properly linked, and all waypoints close enough to an actual waypoint MCU. I think it might also take objectives into account?

Is there anyway to control the level of zoom or prevent it to go extreme zoom in?

These missions are Single Player

Do you already have the flight path there? That should be a good idea anyhow.

The flight path of the plane controlled per the player? Are you saying that the lack of flight path would trigger maximum zoom?

I will have to learn how to set a flight path.

Well, I don't think there's any way to set a path for anyone other than the player. The flight path on the map, I mean. You can do so using Icon Translator MCUs. See JimTM's excellent manual, page 255 :)

Putting waypoints and route solved this extreme zoom problem! Many thanks.

Now I need to replicate this to all the missions using the same map. Is there any way to copy paste some elements from one mission to another?

Yep. First export as a .group file: File -> Save Selection to File...

Then import into your new mission: File -> Import From File...

Or indeed you can copy / paste directly from map to map.
