greybeard_52 Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Hi all, forgive me if I'm reinventing the wheel; I thought what follows could be of some help, though. Having difficulties to watch instruments in flight, and trying to better calibrate their views, I stumbled in this useful management of relevant views by keys on Numeric Pad. Each view can be customized too. First of all be aware that there is a comand to get a glance to instruments, that I binded to Button 1 of my joystick. Secondly, hitting this button together with some keys on Numeric Pad, you get specific views, pointing to precise instruments (as depicted in the attached images): Button 1 + NumPad 1 = Magnetos Button 1 + NumPad 2 = Fuel gauge Button 1 + NumPad 3 = Altimeter + Clock Button 1 + NumPad 4 = Tachometer Button 1 + NumPad 6 = Airspeed Button 1 = Compass Example refers to the Fokker Dr.I. Player can also manage single instruments view by keys on the KB that controls movements along the three axis (X,Y,Z), more the mouse. The new set got must be saved hitting F10 (Ctrl+F10 in my layout): IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU KEEP PRESSED BUTTON 1 DURING ALL THESE OPERATIONS, ESPECIALLY WHEN SAVING, OTHERWISE YOUR INSTRUMENT VIEW WILL BE SAVED AS DEFAULT VIEW! 1
BMA_Hellbender Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Interesting solution. Do you use VR, TrackIR or some other kind of head tracking?

=IRFC=Gascan Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Even with TIR, I've seen people use snap views to jump to the gun sight or check six. I imagine it would also be useful for quickly checking some of the gages that are harder to see. Unfortunately, snap views don't work in VR.
Odovacer Posted June 24, 2022 Posted June 24, 2022 Wow, wasn't aware of this function (still learning ins and outs of IL2). From someone who wants to use Realistic mode as much as possible, thanks so much!

Zooropa_Fly Posted June 24, 2022 Posted June 24, 2022 As long as a player has tracking or VR, I see no need for snap views. Be a man - move your head around ! Never used a snap view, and particularly in ww1 - you don't need the instruments that much anyway. Plus the hassle of switching tracking off is just a distraction. S!
Odovacer Posted June 24, 2022 Posted June 24, 2022 Well, I don't have any tracking or VR yet - a quandary I have yet to settle. So, snap view is all I have. The only instruments I really use are the compass, water temperature and air speed (for landing approaches, I assume I will get better at judging that with experience). In realistic mode, there's no map unless you go to the briefing so navigating with the compass is helpful to get back to base.

Wow... so all of us that have neck issues are wussies, good to know. Actually, nothing you said makes any sense.. don't need instruments? Why would you ever turn Tracking off?

It's a game, and everyone plays different. I was just pointing out that ww1 crates can be flown pretty much 'seat of the pants'. The once or twice I tried snap views back when I started simming - my tracking kicked back in as soon my head moved and I barely got to see what I wanted to see. I was under the impression that it was normal to de-activate tracking. Wasn't worth the hassle for me. I apologise if you took the 'be a man' line seriouosly. It wasn't meant to offend anyone. S!
