Dear All,

I have a very weird problem (VR only player here quest2 via opencomposite) with the ground units that when i get close to them for strafing or bombing they suddenly disappear. It only happens to the active objects terrain and buildings and the trees are drawn.

After going away like 500m they suddenly appear again. Totally crazy and I have it for a year now. I can land next to them. I can hear them I can see nozzle flashes and tracers when they shoot but they are not rendered when I get close.

The same bug is mentioned here:

I have tried a few things with camera settings but it delivered nothing.

Meanwhile my simgear changed drastically. Now I have 4 cougar mfd's (for DCS) that I can just keybind anything without modifiers without joystick gemlin or TM target software etc and I want a fresh start with the settings. May be it might solve that weird render issue too I'm not sure if in VR I have accidentaly click something that breaks camera orientation or so...

OK to sum it up. I want a way to bring IL-2 to factory fresh state and start all over again without reinstalling it. If I loose my single player progress I do not care. What is the best way of doing it? I want guaranteed fresh state without total reinstall.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm not a VR guy, but if you want to reset your default settings in one step, I'd recommend you to do the following:

In your game's data folder you will find a file called "startup.cfg". Just rename this file to something like "startup.old" and launch your game.
The game won't find your old "startup.cfg" file and therefore create an new one, which in general is a good start to reset most of your (wrong)
game settings.

As for your input devices - if you want to set them up from scratch, then you will find a folder called "input" in your game's data folder. Here you

will find a file called "devices.txt" which you can again rename it to something like "devices.old". Restart your game and game will "sniff" your
devices and you can remap all functions you want/need.

Of course - all these renaming task have to be done, when game is closed.

Cheerio

Thanks,

Does this file also contain the airplane specific head position and camera settings? Or is it just standard graphics sound and game play settings?

I created a "backup il2 settings" folder in my documents and copied the startup.cfg, the complete "input" folder and the complete "Luascripts" folder there. After all the time to set snap views and key mapping, I wanted to make damn sure I didn't lose them for any reason.

I actually have several startup.cfg files in there. One for tank driving (with changes like farther grass distance and lower cloud settings) because my frame rate suffer and I figure well, I'm driving a tank. and one default startup.cfg for updates and also a tank specific "input" folder.

Simplified the post a bit.
