I look at that Berlin trailer and I have to admit that I just go "WOW".

Given some of the comments posted here about WT being a good jumping off point to explore flight sims more fully maybe the logical conclusion is a sim light game such as WT, with it's reletively large numbers of players and therefore big bank roll, is actually the base for a more involved and complex sim within, that benifits not only from the cash flow of the larger game but a jumping off point into taking simming more seriously.

Maybe, we serious simmers have it wrong.  Maybe the financial model  shouldn't be a serious game with easy piloting aspects but instead an easy entry game that supports a serious sim within.

Oh! and I have to say I did like the pilot in the cockpit, maybe not for everyone, but I liked it all the same.

They'd just released a video featuring land units but yet to be implemented. Seems to be Arcade with all the icons and 3PV. I wonder how FRB will fit into the new game mode?

Graphics look nice even at ground level.

I`m interested as to how this MMO environment develops. Taking part in grand scale historical battles controlled by human players on both ground and in air is so tempting I`d give it a try in the future. Especially when anything even remotely similar in a flightsim is still a wet dream.

I'm curious how they will use tanks in FRB mode...if at all. I doubt they are working on tank cockpits. So tanks will be 3rd person arcade aim. Maybe locking a "rooftop" cam for tanks in FRB? But I really hope for internal cockpits made.

I really hope they use them in FRB. Have it where if you get shot down in your plane, you can still play on the map using your tank. One thing I have against warthunder is when you are playing with a friend and your buddy dies before you do, you are left with nothing to do but watch the match. There's no way to continue the fight and stay online together. I've wanted the feature of your buddy could spawn into your plane and gun for you if he gets shot down for a long time, don't know if we'll ever see it. But climbing in a tank after your plane is done would be fun and a great way to keep the round going and lasting longer, which is a good thing because sometimes it's hard to find a FRB match.

They actually developed multi crew tech but they were trying to decide what to do with it.

That FRB Event Seige of Malta was fun last night. Great map, great planeset. Makes me really want to see the Med done in IL2.

All it did was remind me how bad I am with Spits lol

Is this snap roll? One of my best move ingame resulting a kill. Instead of using twist stick I can feel a rudder pedal will gives out a "cleaner" Move.

Personally I am very happy to have found war thunder as it has gotten me into sims. After about 4 months and way to much money . I finally wanted to hop into the full real aspect. I loved it and bought me a track ir, the gameplay is great I love the sounds and the graphics but the only HUGE drawbacks are damage model and physics breakdowns.

Take my last nigh session for example. 30mm Burst from my g-10 slams into a la7 he continues to dogfight me with no visible performance changes and kills me. And some planes NEVER lose energy. I think right now the stall speed on a tempest is something like 60 km/h.

Great game and idea poor execution. Great for a more arcade experience but I need something that rewards pilot skill and tactics over plane choices.

So I am curious how much did you spend on WT? How did that work?

Posted (edited)

In WT you can pay RL money to get golden eagles. Golden Eagles (GE) can be used to make you level up faster (in turn unlocking planes) as well as buy premium planes in the game. Not really pay to win until the most recent patch with some of the premium planes becoming ridiculously OP. And I have spent $1,000. Makes me sick to my stomach how much I spent on that game, that was back when i thought i would be playing it for a long time. But now that I found this I will be staying here for my sim needs and only going back there to fly less realistically.

Tonight was a good night in it though, my squad mate finally got his first full real battle (sim) kill and i am trying to get him to come to this :)

I was brand new to sim at the time i started playing WT and thought it was fun until it became to easy and didnt reward tactics I needed a bigger challenge and more realistic style of play. I have been trying to get IL2: CLoD to work on windows 8 but so far I cant get it to run :(

I tried WT some months ago.

Installed it....first take off.....and deinstalled it immediately. There is nothing like a SIM!

Wasted time and money.

But i never be sorry about to spend 500,-$ on ROF plus TrackIR5 and a G940!

Ehhhh, I like to not think about the amount but it's gone 99% into premium aircraft so I can grind credits/nation experiance much faster and have a different aircraft to fly.  See:  Boomerang MK 1/2, Wirraway, lend lease aircraft, the XP-38, XP-50, XP-55 and quite a few more.  Actually makes the grind much easier if you put ~$10 in......but then you never stop putting $10 in   If you have the itch though flying regular aircraft is fine and probably what I fly most of the time besides trading out the P-38 for the XP-38 for the polished metal paint job and the extra earnings (same aircraft besides)

Not me.... No way will I drop a grand on any sim .. even over time.. The hardware to play it .. yeah maybe ... over time .. in fact I probably have spent 3 times that over the past decade on hardware.. but for the software? No friggin way... I'll be an IL2 flying happy camper till the OS no longer runs it before I do that.. Now see ... THAT is pay to win.. if BoS went in that direction I would drop it like a steaming pile..

$1000 ........... :mellow::):lol:

.. and the killer is .. you probably have a lot of company ..............

The only saving grace for spending that much is several hundred of that was going to friends/squad mates who dont have a gaming budget. And I always give out in game stuff for holidays and birthdays and have competitions with prizes for fun.

No need for saving grace, it's your money. Hopefully some of it will be directed to this project too :)

Well I mean saving grace for my own sanity lol. And yes I hope this game will be a amazing as i think :)

Hey, that`s different. Lots of ppl flying IL2 do this as much aswell as RoF. DCS WWII supporters for example funded a nice set of rudder pedals for anyone who pledged at least $40 in KS.

I just like to run a close community with my group. We are about 15 or so strong (left a clan that was waaaaaay to serious and took the game over RL) and we just have fun with it.

If everyone else expresses interest in this game I may have a competition in my group for a couple copies :)

Pity CloD can't be played on Win8, thought I was going to try it out with Team Fusion mod.

What mode you tried on War Thunder? I uninstalled once but that was before I got my HoTAS. After trying out War Thunder's FRB mode I bought TrackIR5 on impulse.

That does change things quite a bit actually.. If I tallied up the gifts of IL2 I got for folks over the years.. it would probably add up to close to $500 if not more.. I thought you meant $1000 just on you and getting decent aircraft. Even at the dCS level that would be extreme but it makes a bit more sense und the circumstances you mentioned.

I think I've spent about $300 total so far in the time it's been out. I gifted a few packs to friends. And bought my son the Steam Ace Pack and about $50 in GE.They make it so it's almost impossible not to want to spend money to get what they call upgrades which are actually just restoration repairs. And they make you pay to have a load out the plane can already carry which to me is just dumb but you have to do it because your fighting will and he'll win. It's like buying a full loaded $80,000 Corvette and in order to use the turn signal you have to pay $5.00 to 'un-lock' that feature.

With each new patch you sometimes lose things you pay for. I have lost all of my Fw-190A-5 skins. The also make you pay for those too and all of them are incomplete or hastily put together. I use my GE to get EXP quicker and buy Lions to buy new birds. I have several that are in the Ace categories. I may use GE on my planes occasionally to get that last upgrade that somehow needs 300,000 EXP to get which would take the average player about two weeks to achieve playing 1 hour a day.

The only thing I hope is that IL-2:BoS does NOT include a gamepad or mouse aim feature.

I would rather spend say $10.00 on a plane form the 777 store and not have to buy anything else.

Well, I just got banned for 12 hours from WT forums for containing a link to IL2Sturmovik.com that I had for the last 4-5 months.

The ban hammer has started to roll, they be getting pissed about BoS.

Cant wait till I can get my hands on BoS (early access seems a stretch now, but would try and buy the premium edition anyways, just that the November 11 deadline seems unreachable)

Sadly WT has gone downhill with every patch and new FM, they killed my 109 F-4

Would talk to support or a mod about that, can probably have gotten it repealed or at least the warning points wiped because that shouldn't be happening and is the bi-product of probably one over zealous mod.   See plenty of people mentioning BOS in the FRB section at least without action taken against them.

In a bit of irony however then canceled this weekend's Divine Wind Special in light of the attacks today.  Proper thing to do IMO.

well, funny thing, I did talk to the mod in question, asking clarification, he told me not to push it. It was Gladio

Well, whatever, did everything right since then, no trolling, no advertisement of BoS in my profile, no spamming.

Later, I get 5 warning points more, get banned for 3 days, and put in 30 days of moderator queue. Banned by Traenix (WT forumers should know who this is). The reason by the mod (who conveniently chose not to receive pms from me) was that my kind of advertisement, spamming, trolling wont be tolerated, when I did nothing wrong, especially since getting those 2 warning points. They said my 30 days of mod queue would be a trial period, and if at any time I do anything that pisses them mods off in that period and afterwards I would have a perma ban.

Oh, and they even changed my member title to Spammer (when I have never even spammed)

I asked Gladio for clarification on this since Traenix did not take Pms from me, I got no answer, waited more than a day, he read it all right, asked Scarper for clarification, again, got no answer yet, he also read it, it's been a few hours now.

I think it is because of my posts in the future of FRB thread, where many of my posts were deleted (after getting many likes, it is not like I wrote irrelevant things, or used profanities or anything, I wrote relevant things that added to the discussion or asked valid questions, concerns that were shared by other players, hence the likes) just because I was critical of the dev for not interacting enough after 10 pages of discussion and putting up a crap, vague poll that was very irrelevant to the issues at hand.

Well screw that anyways, I will be here mostly after I get my hand on it (seems likely I will miss the Nov 11 deadline, but would get it as soon as I possibly can). Just a shame to see it going on such a downhill route, especially since I was there since I think July 2012, so early closed beta, I wanted them to succeed as a sim, but the community and the game went downhill bit by bit.

Now, you cant even be critical of them, they just be rolling out the perma-ban hammer.

Karaya, what happened with the moderators on another forum is private matter, and concerns only you and this other forum.

It would be nice to keep it private. Many thanks in advance.

I tried it and thought that maybe I could get into this thing for a while until BOS came out, but no way. I just couldn't handle the arcadiness of it. We were flying for a couple of minutes to engage a mass of icons in the sky not aeroplanes. Over and over and over again the same thing. However all of the others seem to be having a ball with this thing so how can that be a bad thing? What I think may happen is that some of the good players might start to get bored and want more of a challenge. I can see some coming over to Battle of Stalingrad for that. We should be nice to the young tadpoles and just say..Hey if you want a bigger challenge try Battle of Stalingrad. I'd put  joke but I'd get booted.

That's not the real War Thunder. I believe you played Arcade mode. Tried FRB or FRB events mode. We have no icons in FRB. But the spotting in CloD is better, there's a glint of reflection not just black dots lol.

I tried it a bit today after getting my joystick properly set up. It's a great game, but not a very good simulator. Hopefully some players will come over to a more in-depth game like this in time.
