  1. 1. Which HUD Tank Crew should have in Expert difficulty mode?

    • HUD in Tank Crew should be full-info like with any difficulty settings as it was before
      22
    • HUD in Tank Crew in Expert mode should provide only minimal info like ammo and station name like it is now.

    • HUD in Tank Crew in Expert mode should provide only minimal info like ammo and station name like it is now BUT plus compass.

I would add that as an expert, there shouldn't be any hud... but of course, you need some adjustments: a compass (if it's possible to use in reality, to check if someone knows. ..), being able to communicate/request information from other crew members, a map more suited to the use of tanks (more precise grid, annotations...)... I'm afraid that if certain layouts are fact, some tanks (like the T34 or the KV1...) become unplayable and disgust some TC players (who are not very many yet...)

Tankers should also have the compass on their HUD. Currently there is no other option of seeing/knowing your cardinal directions. Unless a compass or something similar could be added to the commander equipment like the binoculars and pistol, etc.

This. IMHO, the poll should have:
HUD in Tank Crew in Expert mode should provide only minimal info like ammo and compass.

Voted for the first option.

Anyone have voted and think the same - say it here (at the moment there are 9 votes on 1st option, and one have changed, 8 remained).

So...

1. HUD in Tank Crew should be full-info like with any difficulty settings as it was before
 - 10, but 2 of them moved to var.3, so it's 8.

2. HUD in Tank Crew in Expert mode should provide only minimal info like ammo and station name like it is now
 - 6.

3. HUD in Tank Crew in Expert mode should provide only minimal info like ammo and station name like it is now BUT plus compass
 - 8, but plus 2 moved from var.1. So it's 10.

In total - var2 (as now) + var3 (as now plus compass) have 16 votes.
var1 (as it was) have 8 votes.

So we will back compass today then.

Thank you for sharing your opinions!

c'mon guys. Realism is the ONLY option. If you call this a simulator, that is.

It seems in every game nowadays that everyone needs to be spoonfed to victory.

There is the ability to disable hud altogether if realism is your primary goal.

not really, because (among other things with the bugs...), there is no "in game" solution to "fill" this...

no compass in hand, lack of communication with the crew ("you're nice Fritz, but if you just warn me that when there are 5 shells left in the tank, it's going to be complicated...")

My two cents:

1) Tanks are noisy but crew can still communicate (they have four or five other people in them). In single-player the HUD provides some information other crew would provide in real life.

2) The big weakness of Tank Crew in single-player is the lack of Crew communication. Other crew should be spotting enemy tanks or positions and regularly telling the player what they spot (object type, direction, distance).

So if I were creating an 'expert' difficulty I'd probably retain the compass (but have less tooltips, ammo or speed info etc.) but overall I think a lot of information should be verbally available from other crew.

Overall though, I think the single biggest improvement to Tank Crew would be to have an AI revision that would cause crew to assist situational awareness by calling out what they are seeing, whether they think it is within range etc.

P.S. It would be ideal if this could be combined with a more general AI revision to AI detection - one that caused more realistic search limitations, delays in target identification etc. (similar to the dev docs posted for DCS Mi-24P module early in development) for enemy AI then that would ensure more balanced situational awareness (something which frustrates new players to TC).

I think the problem here is that most of us play TC in multi-player/single-crew mode, not multi-player/multi-crew mode.  If there were only a multi-crew option, then we would have other real players in the tank with us and they would be giving us verbal info.  When it’s just us as a single in the tank, there’s no communication taking place so we have to rely on that information coming from the game - in this case, the HUD.

The first one to spot enemy in a tank is the tank commander. The second one is the gunner, but only in his limited FOV. IRL the gunner would search a certain area with his gunsight by turning the turret from side to side, but not magically see any target, like in game. But the other crew members are not of much help for finding enemy tanks or guns. Only at short range the driver and radio operator would see, for example, infantry in front of the tank. But mainly spotting enemy is your job as tank commander.

It's the mentality of "sim must be as real as possible". There's a balance that needs to be achieved between game and sim. Those that want it to be a full sim should just turn off their HUD (like some already do)

I voted for number 3. I'd rather the sim focus on handling, damage, gunnery, etc. I don't want to hop back and forth between Commander and Driver just to get a compass reading, and I don't want to press Tilde to bring up the command menu and ask my driver for a reading. Just show me the damn compass

Any improvements / enhancements should be made with both Multi-player and Single Player options.

I tend to only play TC in Multi-player, sometimes in multi-crew most often in Single crew.

What I would definitely NOT want is some AI bot pointing out where other players / tanks may be hiding which I as the player could not detect.

It is bad enough with the turret swinging of its own accord and no way to disable the AI assist (range etc) in multiplayer.

Also if the HUD code is going to be looked at, perhaps the below issue could be resolved as well...I have checked and it is still present.

First of all I want to thank the Devs for restoring the HDG indicator.

This has raised the issue of whether access to a hand held compass for the commander would be a benefit.  The hand held compass would certainly be of a lot more use than the hand held pistol.  The flare gun is very useful but a compass for the commander to help orientate and give precise readings to colleagues in other tanks. This is helpful and realistic and allows players to help other tankers in spotting.

I would like to play without HUD. But when i turn it off - it is off players chat also:wacko:

I would like to remove HUDs to another grade of difficulty or add it to custom option. Or not disable chat when i press turn off HUD.

I was very happy when you change HUD in update, but i was on duty and even not play with new options, cause you so fast remove for old arcade HUD?

So sad...
