HBPencil Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 Hello, The official skin named 'RNZAF' has an incorrect description as per the screen shot below. It should read like so: "Wg Cmdr I.S. Smith, No. 487 (NZ) Squadron, Hunsdon, England, Spring 1944." To that end the skin should probably also be renamed to something more accurate. The New Zealand squadrons formed under Article XV for the RAF (Nos. 485 -490 inclusive) all used (NZ), or (New Zealand) in long form, in their title rather than RNZAF. Btw there's no place named Hunsdon in New Zealand and the RNZAF didn't operate Mosquitos until after the war. Regards, HB
1CGS LukeFF Posted June 1, 2022 1CGS Posted June 1, 2022 Correct on the Hundson part, but the use of NZ instead of RNZAF in the Article XV squadrons was never universally applied:
HBPencil Posted June 4, 2022 Author Posted June 4, 2022 That's a reasonable point, and tbf the squadron crests do have 'Royal New Zealand Air Force' on them. I guess as a Kiwi I'm used to always seeing those squadrons described as 'New Zealand' rather than 'RNZAF' in virtually all histories, including the official post-war stuff. It is useful for distinguishing the Article XV units (effectively RAF squadrons with RNZAF aircrew) from the actual RNZAF. 1
