352ndOscar Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 Well, it won’t be long before we start hearing from one group that it’s overpowered……….

That was the idea when they built the real one. ? I forget if the Arado (most likely next release and coming reasonably soon) has guns on it but, if it does, we'll see dogfighting jet bombers soon.

Meanwhile the HS 129 and 110 and 88 can literally do backflips and out dogfight Hurricanes and Spitfires...because we know that's how it was in real life. The 110 was undoubtedly the best fighter of WW II. 1

I have not flown the one in legacy IL2 in years but I believe the periscope is your rearward gunsight too.

Youll be suprised then when one gets you with 20mm gunpod, maybe 1 or 2 were used for night fighter who knows where, it will be modification for it and its gona be used in game for some DF and base strafe.
Avimimus Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 Yes, apparently the rearward firing guns weren't really operationally used. However, the gunpod was used on a couple of aircraft in the night fighting experiment, and maybe a couple of others as for daylight operations. There had been a report of one kill of a recon P-38 by an Arado Ar-234 using it - but some of us spent a lot of time looking at the evidence (including some people with better understanding of the historical record) and found it to be somewhat contradicted. In any case we know that it was designed to have the gunpod, that gunpods were made, and that it appears at least one day-flying pilot had it installed. I'm looking forward to it a lot, partly because Arado had always conceived of an armed recon variant (the idea appears in both the design studies leading to the Ar-234B and the design studies for successors to it)... so the gunpod his both historical and gives us a chance to try out a variant with forward firing guns. I'm looking forward to dogfighting an Me-262 in it.
