Since the Mosquito update, I haven't been able to start the game, dude to it crashing every time after I press the "Play" button in the launcher. 

Idk if I'm the only one experiencing this.

Don´t use the Play button, go into your games folder ...../bin/game and find the IL2.exe. send a shortcut of it to your desktop or taskbar and use that to start your game.

Thanks for the very quick answer, but it doesn't work either... I just get a black screen for a second, and then the game closes...

Sorry to hear, I have a similar problem nowadays, I can only start the game via the steamapp, the IL2.exe files on my PC, one in the storebought and the other in the steamapps do not work. I have to go via steam to get up and running!

Try renaming your startup.cfg in the <installdir>\data directory and see if that helps (if not, you can always restore the renamed file).

Tried the renaming of the startup.cfg, no go. I have attached the dumpfile if someone knowledgeable could please untangle the mysteries hidden there.

PS. I also dropped a ticket at the game support including the dumpfile.
