Then let me ask you - who is gonna pay for it? I'm positive the Devs would like to improve outdated 3d models - in fact Jason gave precisely that as an answer during a Q&A session last year in a response to a question by me what he'd like to do if technological and financial barriers didn't exist. However, such things aren't free. The Dev's budget comes from the sale of their products, which means they've got three options: - Don't improve old models. - Improve old models using budget "leftovers" and give them to the community for free. - Improve old models and sell them again, for a reduced price. None of those is a good option here, as improving old models doesn't directly affect newer modules in the way the development of some other technologies has. Still, the Devs have got an excellent track record of improving old versions, so I guess we can always hope One thing I think they *could* do though, IMHO, is market their newer products seperately on Steam, rather than as a DLC. Right now, if you go to the Steam Store page, IL2 shows a release date in 2014. IL2 has improved immensely since then; I think the current game and graphics look little like that first release (well, from what I've seen of it; I only jumped aboard in late 2018 or so). When I first noted IL2, this put me off for a while, until I noticed that the game was in fact constantly being updated. I can only imagine that the offputting effect of a 2014 release date is much more severe today than in 2018. 2

=621=Samikatz Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 I think the thing about redoing the models is... We've seen how much time and effort it takes to make the latest aircraft at their highest standard. How long would it take to meaningfully redo 40-50 planes that already look pretty great in motion anyway? You can bring up DCS, but their aircraft take 2-4 years to make and are still full of bugs and the game has terrible framerate issues on top of that. IL-2 is a much more balanced approach 3
MisterSmith Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Temporarily locking for some much needed cleanup. We have drifted far afield of a Dev update post. This is not the appropriate thread for a discussion on updating models and maps. I will split it off if I can or delete the entries if I can’t. 1 3 1 1
MisterSmith Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 Unlocked but claims of bias by the Dev team regarding aircraft or combatant nations are a no go. Entries have been culled and timouts have been administerd. The Devs do some of the best work in the industry regarding fidelity and are open to changes with the proper ORIGINAL documentation. The caveat(s) to this are, your particular itch may not be as high on the list as you want for technical, staff, or available documentation. Your roadmap may not be ,and likely is not, the same as the developers roadmap for a million reasons you cannot see behind the curtain. Stick to the topic at hand, a DD in this case, and don't go on wild tangents. If you have recommendations or complaints refer to the rules on how to properly address them and/or start threads if appropriate. 2 2 2
Ouky1991 Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 Map looks much better than Rhienland, great work! Now that there'll be 3 maps with huge body of water, it would be great if we'd get the water rendering improved. It really starts to show it's age. Option for further reflections would be nice too. 2
