I've been so looking forward to seeing this story told on the big screen and by the looks of the trailer, it's not going to disappoint!

We've got multiple modern flight sims and now multiple aviation themed movies coming, it's a great time to be an avgeek!!!!

Corsairs! I'm in!

I have a big collection of aviation movies on my Plex server, and might revisit The Bridges at Toko Ri before I watch this one.

Meh…we’ll see.

Looks like more Hollywood dog-squeeze to me. If it’s not, then great - but that trailer doesn’t convince me.

I don’t trust Hollywood and their twisted agenda, and avoid most movies now. I was skeptical about this movie…still am a bit…But damn this is looking good!!!! I’ll expect a review first day. :)

I'll definitely be posting one! ?

I'm expecting a good one, the movie director is actually the son of a former USN Blue Angel, they also ended up using the same USN advisor (Brian "Ferg" Ferguson) from "Top Gun: Maverick" as well as the same aerial coordinator team lead by Kevin LaRosa II,  so it's got a lot of good going for it, we'll see!

Glen Powell "Hangman" also played as John Glenn in "Hidden Figures" so he's all about these pilot roles it seems.  Evidently, Tom Cruise paid for Glen's flight training as a Christmas gift a few years ago and he now has his PPL.

It's always been a masterpiece in my eyes, dare I say it, better than Private Ryan......

Saw it last night, really enjoyed it, was unaware of these specific pilots so was moved and impressed by the film. I read up on the true story afterwards and feel the filmmakers made good decisions in how they told the story. The two lead actors have always impressed me in their other roles, especially Jonathan Majors, who is again fantastic in this.

And oh wow do I want to fly a Corsair in VR!

Watched it last night.  Overall, I enjoyed it.  The flying scenes are only rivaled by Top Gun: Maverick (which makes sense since it's the same aerial team for both movies).  I wish they would've gone more into his Jesse's road into getting winged, that would've made some of the more dramatic plot points a bit more meaningful IMHO.  The MiG scene (teased in the trailer) was kinda clunky and didn't make much sense... It also could've done with another pass by the editing team, some scenes could've been trimmed up a bit better (shorter some places, longer in others)...

Outside of that, I'd definitely watch it again and will be buying it once it's released ? Gonna start reading the actual "Devotion" book this week.

This was the first time I ever heard that story.

I plan on seeing Devotion because of it.

Agreed across the board.

I enjoyed it.

Some of the CG was clunky and could have used any one of us on this forum to help a bit...but overall didn't bother me much.

Some nice real life aircraft footage too.

Anyone out there know if this film is being shown in UK cinemas? Looks fab!

I watched it last night and it was amazing. Great to see the Corsairs, Bearcats and of course the MIG.

I read that Hudner and Charles Ward tried for 45 minutes with an axe to cut Jesse out of that Corsair but to no avail ?

The Chinese likely reached the plane as Jesse's clothes were reportedly gone.

This story imo is up there with the Stigler-Brown incident in regard to self-heroism by a pilot during a conflict.

I hope they do find Jesse's body and bring him home.

Funny you should mention it, as there's a book on both incidents, written by the same author.

Not really a spoiler when it's a historical event anyone can look up online. We're not talking about a fictional story here. ?

Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t know that cliff notes which I looked up after I saw the movie was a spoiler ?

In my post I didn’t even say why or how Hudner and Ward got there, their relationship with Jesse Brown and why he was trapped.

Not a spoiler.

I haven't seen the film, and know nothing of the historical events or the outcome mentioned. The post seems to indicate the that a character in the film meets his end, and how. Either my interpretation of the sentence or its context is mistaken, or it's a spoiler. Hopefully the former.

With respect- I think your interpretation of all of the posts that followed is mistaken. :)

Bummer, looks like they won't even release the movie to German cinemas ?

I'll buy it as soon as my favorite streaming platform releases it. A movie with real Corsairs in it is a must have in my book.  I was a big fan of the Baa Baa Black Sheep series in the 90ies. I remember the long wait between episodes,  and the immense joy when the new episode finally aired on Friday evening.

Nor to French cinemas (release on French-dubbed version of Netflix is planned for the 20th of January, 2023). The film was released last year in Belgium though, among a few other international releases.

By the way, I found the way to watch it... and I must admit it's not that bad...

It just released on streaming platforms here in the states so hopefully it'll hit international streaming services soon as well.

I just watched it this afternoon on my xbox via Microsoft movies.

It was enjoyable and worth the price.

Just saw it on Paramount+. It was a very moving and emotional story. Glad to see the stories of the "forgotten war" are brought to light when possible.
