1/JSpan_Wind75 Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 With the new clouds of the latest IL2 updates there is a small problem. The clouds are beautiful and give the simulator greater depth, it could even be a way to make it difficult to fly with thunderstorms. But sometimes, in too many missions, in PILOT CAREER mode it is necessary to fly with the icons activated (colored) because within these new clouds that can have a thickness from 400 or 500 meters to heights of 3000 or more there is no human way of flying a mission with an all gray background and no visibility at all. Moreover, if you fly in planes that do not have the artificial level device, it is normal for you to crash because you do not have visual references. Come on... in reality, in those visibility conditions it is impossible to fly. The normal thing is that in reality all flights would have to be interrupted, but the fact is that in PILOT CAREER Mode the normal thing is to have these dark gray clouds with rain or light gray clouds in which the only thing you see are the icons of your AI companions or those of the enemies I don't tell you anymore... Any solution? 1
Gambit21 Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Yes, the solution is matching cloud pre-sets/deck heights etc with waypoint heights so that the flight is under, over, or between cloud layers. This is fairly easy to do in a scripted campaign, but will take more work where the career is concerned. It's basically a template and parameters can be adjusted as needed, but with all of the maps X all of the aircraft it will be no small task. We can let VikS know via the beta forum. 4
Noisemaker Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 I've already reported the issue in the Technical Issues sub-forum, where my flight, in an attempt to fly below cloud level crash into the mountains between our start and target. It's been largely corrected, but it still pops up once in a while. Once you become squadron leader, you can correct the flight plan yourself, but until then, you are subject to the mission design and whatever rng that determine what mission you get and what weather you'll be faced with. I'm not up to speed on the eastern front, but on the western, I know that I've flown missions during weather where all flights would have been grounded. 2
1/JSpan_Wind75 Posted May 24, 2022 Author Posted May 24, 2022 I think it's a problem that will be difficult to solve in the missions that the game automatically generates. So you will have to get used to flying the "Pilot Career" with icons.
