After some months off, I tried to reconnect my Reverb.  Not going well.

Check your USB cable

Make sure the USB cable is plugged into the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port.

Error code: 4-1

I have tried every USB port that I have.  This device did work on this PC before.  When I go to the device manager it says that the device is functional.  Obviously, it is not.

When I plug into a different USB port the WMR tries to reset, so it is detecting something.

Disclaimer: I lost my HP USB C to USB 3.0 adaptor and purchased a new one.  That could obviously be the problem, but if it is, why would it not work?  What makes the HP adaptor special?

Things I have tried:

Multiple USB ports

Device resets

Reboot PC

Internet searches

Do you have the new replacement cable with the bigger break out box , there was usb connectivity issues with the earlier cables.

If you have the older one contact hp support and they will supply a new one foc.

If you do have the older V1 cable (you can also tell because the V2 breakout box has a little switch on the side of it) and you have an externally powered USB 3 hub, that may work in the interim.  The USB C adapter should not be the issue.

Another thing is removing the cable from the HMD's side and reseating it.

The HMD-side jack can be stressed easily if the cable forces it to be flexed; which is the case in the default cable routing instructions IMO and they should be avoided and instead opt to route it something like this so it has enough slack and the jack isn't stressed:

Is AVX instruction support enabled in the BIOS?

While trying to overclock my CPU a bit more, I disabled AVX in the bios. After that my G2 did not work anymore. The Reverb G2 requires AVX.

Greetings

Odd it never did for me when I was using the G2.

I always had headset misfires with my G-2 about every third or fourth startup, not a single issue since dumping steamVR and going the openXR route, not even one.

I never have any with the G2 under any runtime. Patrick's problem however is long before he even attempts to use SteamVR, he's getting the error in the WMR portal.

AVX is not a runtime, it is a special processor instruction set. To achieve better overclocking results, you can disable this instruction set in the bios. However, Windows Mixed Reality needs this instruction set to control the motion controller.
Read here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/error-codes

Alls l know is at least in my case when I was running Reverb G2 AVX was disabled in my bios. Has been ever since building this rig in 2019. Never had any issue with the Reverb G2 when I was running it. And yes I also used the controllers with it as well.

What hardware are you using?

Thanks for the replies.  It was the substitute connector.  I got yet another one that was "USB C to Super Speed USB"  as opposed  to the first one ... "USB C to USB".  Apparently, "Super Speed" - is that just a name for USB 3.0? - matters for the connector as well as the port.

I bought a used G2. It got the same issue while trying to verify it it said I had no USB 3.0

But I do have blue SS USB plugs.

Not that I mind too much. Accidently bought a 49" screen and consider flying with that with extra screens for system in DCS instead.

Not 100% sure, but if you want to get it going a USB 3 hun might do the trick for under $30.

How does one accidentally  buy a 49 inch monitor?

I bought 3 printers aswell , I guess one have to spend more than 1 second  when online buying and not accept purchace before one read what you actually bought.

I manage to return two of the printers, and they where not small. 6 paper draws all in 1 k $ class.

The screen was actually good, you can blow up pictures to see how they are in big format . So once the shock had settled I felt ok by it

I guess there's some merit in the claims that inebriated shopping is a multi-billion dollar market.
