Low FPS When Flying over or Looking at Cities Any fix?

Just as the title says. I've tuned my settings so that I'm getting a steady 71 FPS, even with overcast and plenty of planes in the sky... but the minute I turn my head toward a city, it drops instantly to 35 FPS and I get a lot of blurring and ghosting--artifacts of interpolated frames, I suspect.

I've tried just about every conceivable setting and even tried turning down resolution until it looks like crap, but nothing helps.

I'm using an Oculus Quest 2 and just upgraded from an Nvidia 1060 to an AMD 6700xt. It's made a huge difference...except in that one area. Is there something I can do, or is this something I just have to live with?

All I feel like flying right now are biplanes, and it wouldn't be so bad, except that in EVERY turning flight, I hit that spot where the frames drop instantly and I get the blurriness/ghosting.  And then it'll even out as I continue turning...then happen again when I come back around. It's very annoying.

AMD GPUs have a performance issue with IL-2 in monitor and VR.

Multiple people have tested them in the SYN_Vander  benchmark and the peformance considerably lower than expected.

What are the rest of your system specs?

Are you running any AA? Might try FXAA if you haven't, it is not as good but gives little better performance.

Are you using Airlink or Oculus Link via the USB Cable? With the Link cable it has added stuff it needs to do compressing and decompressing on the fly. I assume you have played around with the bitrate settings for Oculus Link? ( I don't use one but basing this on what I have heard over the years).

Edit: One thing you might try just for kicks and grins, if you have not yet, is try increasing your VR pre-rendered frames from the default of 1 to 2 in Nvidia control panel for IL-2 and then test it to see if any difference down low over towns. You will also want to check "prefer maximum performance" in those same Nvidia settings for IL-2.

Thanks for the input, guys.

I switched from SteamVR to OpenComposite, and it seems to have done the trick. (I didn't like having to use SteamVR for a game I bought directly from the devs, anyway.)
