DBFlyguy Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 (edited) Bohemia Interactive just finished up their twitch stream covering the newest iteration of ARMA and its actually out now on Stream! Edited May 17, 2022 by DBFlyguy
dburne Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 (edited) Oh man this looks a lot like Medal of Honor Allied Assault maybe even better. How in the world can they release this with no built in support for VR? This is 2022 for craps sake, even EA's F1 2022 will have VR support built in. Hmm upon reading further seems Reforger is only for Multiplayer, so this one not for me anyways. Maybe I will hope that Arma 4 will include VR support. It is certainly looking pretty nice if this is what Arma 4 will be built off of. Just need that VR baby! No VR - No buy from me -ever. I need to do another play through of Medal of Honor Allied Assault with my Aero, just too much time right now I have to spend in my flight sims. Edited May 17, 2022 by dburne
Ribbon Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 I don't mind FPS game not having VRsupport....i just hope TRUE Arma4 isn't years away?. Bought A.Reforger just as a support, looks and runs great!
Eisenfaustus Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Nice shadow drop but without SP not for me - looking forward to ArmA4 though! 1
Trooper117 Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 I think the bulk of SP stuff will come from the modders in the workshop... (when they bother to put it in). At the moment the only SP stuff is playing the Gamemaster element or the small tutorial. If you are going to wait for Arma 4 it could be a couple of years away... me, I just might reinstall Arma 2 for that cold war fix. (Arma 2 is the Arma game I have had the most enjoyable time with, instead of all that future bolox in Arma 3) 1

For SP content, Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead has a solid campaign! Probably my second favorite in the series behind the original campaign in Operation Flashpoint. The Arma 2 DLC: BAF had a pretty good campaign too
Pastrana Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Full review below • Not Arma 4, just an engine test/preview. Arma 4 will be a completely separate release and purchase when that releases around 2025. • Not worth full price at current state, unless you wish to support devs or utilize developer tools. • Contains three playable game types: PvP Capture Points, Zeus Game Master, and a tutorial. • Runs relatively smoothly albeit not without its fair share of bugs and quirks. • Uses a context menu (similar to DayZ) that replaces the old scroll wheel interaction menu. But also has console-orientated UI elements that are bad for PC. • Graphics are a major improvement over previous installment. • Is supported by BI's new addon workshop instead of the Steam workshop used by Arma 3. What exactly is Arma Reforger? It's important to note, that this is not Arma 4, or even a standalone game. This is simply a tech demo/testing platform for the Enfusion engine for Arma 4, which is estimated to release by 2025. As such, Reforger is fairly bare-bones content-wise. Currently, all that is included is a PvP game mode that is somewhat similar to Squad, and a simple "Zeus Game Master" game mode that allows for custom-made PvP/Coop scenarios. This is all on the one map, Everon, the remake of the Operation Flashpoint map. Also included is the Enfusion Dedicated Server for server hosts and the Arma Reforger Tools. Is it worth getting? The current price IMO is too high to make it worth purchasing, unless you're an avid Arma fan and want to track the future of Arma and support the devs, or you're planning to use the Arma Reforger Tools to get into development. But if you're thinking of getting this just for something to play, it'd be more worth it to buy Squad or Arma 3. The only reason for my up-vote is for the extensive toolset provided to allow addon makers to develop and test mods that will eventually seen in Arma 4. There is a workshop supported by Bohemia Interactive's custom-made addon workshop, and once community content is developed this game may be more worth the price. However, in its current state, it does not contain a lot (3 factions with weapons, equipment, structures, cars, and one APC). On top of that, the custom scenario "Zeus Game Master" game mode lacks much of the same level of control that was found in Arma 3's ZGM. You can place units, waypoints, objects, spawns, and objectives, but that's about it. You can't edit AIs' skills, behavior, or gear, nor can AI drive vehicles. Many of the modules found in A3's ZGM are missing as well, leaving scenario control to just the players' faction, weather, and time of day. This follows a series of other disappointing changes there likely made to support console players, and I personally hope this trend doesn't continue into Arma 4. How is the performance? Is Arma finally optimized?? This is a good question but hard to answer personally. The best I can say is it performs quite similarly to DayZ. I will say it seems large numbers of AI and players fortunately aren't as laggy as was the case in Arma 3, but it's not the +100% FPS some people were hoping for. I estimate Arma 4 will still require a modern build of that time. Hopefully, someone will come out with extensive tests, but from my current playtime so far, I can say it runs decently smooth. As for stability, there is a noticeable improvement in movement, interactions, and animations, but there is still plenty of janky-ness in other places that's expected for an Arma title. On top of that, I've personally experienced a couple of crashes/frame drops during my playtesting, but that is expected considering the current Alpha state of the game. The AI themselves have been improved somewhat. Although they lack any in-depth control over behaviors, they at least do a better job or reacting and engaging in contact. I'm fairly certain they will be dramatically overhauled before Arma 4 is released. Misc Ratings • Graphics: 8/10 • Performance: 7/10 • Gameplay: 4/10 • Stability: 6/10 • Most impressive: Visuals are stunning (e.g. dynamic lights raycasting, cloud shadows, HD textures, distant models). • Most disappointing: Console-favored interface design. Reminiscent of the vanilla Skyrim UI, especially with the Zeus interface. As Arma Reforger continues to update, I will update this review. source https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198077965553/recommended/1874880/
scram77 Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 Absolutely loving this so far. A real throwback to playing the Ooriginal Operation Flashpoint but with better everything than Arma 3 as far as I'm concernred. Graphics, sound, movement, accessability, online teamwork - all better than Arma 3 and with a setting that I much prefer. I had some issues with multiplayer at first last night which seemed to be widespread, however I've not had an issue since and it's been working great.
Rei-sen Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 (edited) BIS mf-rs should be ashamed of themselves for asking $30 for a turd like this. Edited May 20, 2022 by Arthur-A
Trooper117 Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 All we are seeing here is the usual mixed responses to something new... no one can say they didn't know what they were buying as it's clearly stated on steam exactly what this is and what it includes, unless of course the usual idiots don't even bother to read everything before buying... (and there are an unusual amount of stupid people on the steam forums as we all know)... SP is sparse, but modders are already starting to put out some good stuff... I played a lovely little battle clearing Lamenten of Russians yesterday. I only bought into it because despite my reservations I wanted to see Everon in the new game engine and it's pretty stunning. If Arma 4 turns out graphically as good as this I'll be more than happy, and graphically this beats Arma 3 hands down. The good thing is, if people don't like it they can refund, and if they don't like the price they don't have to buy it... Me, I think it's a bit overpriced to be honest, but I took the plunge anyway and I'm enjoying it regardless. 1 2
DBFlyguy Posted May 21, 2022 Author Posted May 21, 2022 Red Hammer Studios hosted a stream yesterday covering modding in Reforger. I'm guessing It's not gonna be too long before they start dropping their stuff in the new engine and all of the complaints about "content" for the price will be null and void. In case anyone is unaware of what RHS does, here is a small vid giving the gist of the type of work RHS has done in ARMA 3: 2
