GSHWK_Houndstone_Hawk Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 (edited) Hi. A curious one this one. With the brief example supplied, I've never had a problem in deactivating (deleting) ai vehicles & aircraft but all of a sudden, & without changing anything my end; I've noticed that if you follow the vehicle using F5, they will indeed disappear as soon as the WP triggers the timer & in turn, the timer triggers the deactivation ... but ... the vehicles can still be heard and sure enough, jumping into the cockpit, taking off, & going over to investigate, the assumed deactivted vehicles are still there, wandering around, crashing into everything & everyone. Has something changed in recent updates that I'm ignorant to maybe? As usual, any help is always extremely appreciated. I should point out that the symbol at the waypoint is intended to be a 'deactivate' and not an 'activate' as well as missing out the object link from WP to vehicle (it's only a hastily put together diagram). ? Cheers. HH Edited May 16, 2022 by GSHWK_Houndstone_Hawk
DD_Friar Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 in your mission is the waypoint object linked back to the ai plane/vehicle? 1

It is true that a deactivated object like a plane or a vehicle disappears and goes back into the matrix as a ghostly object in limbo/suspended life and at the spatial position where he was, until you activate it again where it appears again at that same position and continues doing whatever he was doing. If you delete the object then it disappears for good and there is no ghost waiting. If it was linked objects they will be deleted too but you cannot create a set of linked objects again hence the interest of using deactivate. What you mention did not happen to me but i never did that for player objects only for AI objects. If you deactivate an object and create an object exactly at the same place where the deactivated object stands a collision will occur between the ghost-object and the object and they will be vaporized like in an matter anti-matter collision.

Although your diagrams are well done, it would probably be easier for everyone (especially yourself) if you just took a screenshot, or posted the mission file so those with time and inclination can actually help you diagnose your issues. Just sayin' ... I have to admit you guys have me wondering how much CPU energy is taken up with deactivated groups in a mission vs. deleted groups. I have a nice way to test that, so off I go.

IckyATLAS Posted June 9, 2022 Posted June 9, 2022 I made tests but even with a large number I could not see a difference between deactivating or deleting in terms of effect on the game. But I have a very powerful machine so maybe the difference is less visible.

I discovered that I could not tell a difference so I don't think it makes one. I ran a mission that was struggling, thinking it might be all the AI I deactivated. Then I deleted all the AI and ran it again. FPS was the same, time distortion same, with it on 8x speed it was the same as 2x speed, and CPU, RAM and GPU usage were all very similar. Bottom line, it didn't help enough to even notice, if at all.
