Is this possible? I first experienced this in DCS multiplayer and figured it would be cool if IL2 had some cool intro and outro music when you spawn in.

Yes it is !

'Translator : Media' MCU is what to use.

Simply control when it starts / stops with timers.

The track isn't itself stored in the mission - it's a link to wherever it is on your computer.

So if running an MP map live, other participants would be able to hear the music, whereas if you emailed me the map - there'd be no music since I don't posess the music files.

The mp4 (for example) will be downloaded when the player downloads the mission etc (it will be included in the .list file).  It will be stored in the same directory as the mission file on the players machine.

I would shy away from large files as it will impact on the mission download / loading times.

I have used this feature for playing an old fashioned car horn sound to signify the start of a mission.

I used mp3's.

Don't think there's a size limit (since the file isn't embeded), but don't quote me on that !

The minimum sample rate would have been 128 - that's the smallest I use for anything.

Hmm, inside the Media Translator, when I tried attaching the music file, the line remained blank instead of displaying the file, what do you think is going on?

Is your music file outside the game /data folder? It's probably best to place it under the /mission or /dogfight folder, or a subfolder of one of those. Also, don't forget to click the Set button once you select the music file.
