Dear Great War Pilots!

We have some awesome news to share with you in today’s DD. The images below are the first to show the Sopwith Snipe and Siemens-Schuckert D.IV Collector Planes we have in development. They are being built by our friends at Ugra Media with our supervision and they are coming along quickly. The Snipe’s external is looking good and the cockpit is well under way, but not ready for a public reveal yet. The SS.D.IV is in a less developed state, but it’s coming along nicely. Both of these are challenging little birds to build, as great reference material is sparse, but when complete they will represent the pinnacle of WWI fighter design at the time of the Armistice. These are also the first truly new aircraft for Flying Circus that were not made for Rise of Flight in the past and we think you will really enjoy them! Both of these will be made available for Pre-Order soon, now that they have made significant process in their development. More about these two interesting warbirds as development progresses.

Full Text and Visuals HERE.

Is the still propeller in the screenshots an effect of the new propeller rendering? Does the new effect change when slowing down time/pausing?

4 bladed prop could be interesting.

It will be interesting to see how that geared prop drive works out.  Theoretically with the prop spinning opposite of engine rotation, it should help cancel torque.  Should make for a tricky FM challenge for the devs.

This is a very common misinformation.

Prop and engine were rotating in unison into the same direction with the Siemens & Halske Sh.III engine, while only the crankshaft was the counter rotating part.

Absolutley amazing dev diary by the way, looking forward to both planes. Especially the D.IV, though.

Wow, even stranger than I thought.

There still should be a degree of torque reduction though.

One wonders if the juice was worth the squeeze, but the Germans have always loved over complicated design.

Definitely yes!

Even though wikipedia isn't the best source to cite most of the time, there actually is a nice animated graphic to visualize how the engine / crankshaft movement worked with the Siemens & Halske Sh.III. You can find it under the sub chapter 'Design'.

Nice to see some development of those 2 birds, been waiting for quite some time for a heads up.

Have a nice day.

Always nice to see new machines ever more frequent being added, even if it is a Sukerbert Snopsnipe.

Nice news and TY!

However Im still waiting for official (not scripted) SP campainges for FC1 and 2 and new part of map.

Till no campain I didnt see the reason to buy more planes for multiplayer only sorry …. ?

I also think that FC series could be more popular if the default campaign will be ready.

Pls focus on it :)!

If non-Flying Circus owners buy the Snipe and the SS. D.IV, will they be able to fly them over WW1 maps?

Thank you

I think, and may be wrong here, that you'll need to at least buy Flying Circus to get the map.

But if anybody knows better, correct me.

Have a nice day.

This is super exciting! Something completely new that wasn't in RoF.

The Snipe should be a refined and somewhat easier to fly Camel. The SSW D.IV has higher aspect ratio wings which should make it exceptionally good at retaining speed in a turn. Both should be fascinating additions!

Hopefully they will do well enough to encourage creation of a few more (Roland D.VI - a fast and elegant 1918 fight to reach service) and even some interesting 1917 birds that also saw combat (Airco DH.5 with its exceptional visibility and good speed for the era, Morane-Saulnier AI parasol fighter with its exceptional speed).

Anyway - I can't wait to pre-order!

One could fly them on other maps though. That said - FC and FC2 are definitely worth it (especially FC2)

Here is a thread where we work out why the SSW D.IV is interesting (compared to the Fokker aircraft of the era):

People may find it interesting.

These are the first new WWI aircraft released in seven years. I think we should be allowed to celebrate!

I wish that along with all these great new WW1 aircraft, game play at Flying Circus would improve ,especially with career possibilities and scripted campaigns.Another idea would be the same sort of options in Single Missions map for alternative semi pre palled missions for all of the aircraft available.Right now Flying Circus still feels a bit unfinished.?

Looking good! can't wait having those birds in the sim. Let' see if the Siemens turns out to be the beast it should be...

Little, as the engine can speed up very fast. On the whole, the engine can do 160 hp where the earlyer rotaries do ~100 hp at the same rpm. Hence, you have in fact significantly more torque. Gyro is another issue, but nothing that is not entirely controllable by a competent pilot. As it is in the other aircraft.

I see. Do they require Flying Circus Vol 2?

No, but if you want to fly them over a WWI map in single player you'll need Vol 1 or 2. In multiplayer you'll be able to fly them over any map as usual.
