Anyone here with Trackir?  I am unable to set up my Trackir 5 on my desk top. I can't get it to stop jittering every time I move my head.  It will set for a second or 2 and then it starts to stop and go.  Every head movement causes jitters.  I tried new and older drivers with no luck.  Anyone?   Thanks all...take care..

If you open up the GUI and click on the "Display" drop down in the top left corner of main window, you'll see "Camera" at the drop of the list. If you click that it'll show what sources of IR light the camera is picking up and where the sources are in relation to the camera. This will show you if there are any rougue light sources and also if the camera is in the correct place. It should also show you if the camera is functioning correclty or flaking out.

After that, start with one of the default presets to avoid some of the whackier curves in some user custom files and make sure youve set the up the hardware profiles in the GUI correctly (especially the camera orientation and head unit type).

TIR  comes from a time when a 17" inch CRT monitor was da nutz and was really intended for dudes crouched over their desks peering down so range is quite limited. Any distance between the camera and the head unit greater that 3 foot is likely to be problematic.

good luck

Thanks Boo.  I've had Trackir 5 for a couple of years and I could install the software and have it show up on my monitor, and  ready to be configured.  That was before I got into VR and Windows 10.   I wanted my wife to see how Trackir worked because she can't wear a VR HMD for race sims she like to play.  Right now, there's no way to set ANY configuration.  It will show up on my monitor OK, but when I click on anything in the control panel, or move my head, Trackir goes haywire.  It just won't keep any setting I click on.  This only happens on Win 10.   Do you have your Trackir with Win 10?  Thanks again buddy...take care...

Yeah, Its been though Win 7, 10 and 11, 3 gen of intel and now Ryzen without issues (though I went back to 10) . Ive always run TIR as Admin but I dont think that would make any difference in this case. Other than that I cant recall doing anthing special to it at all.

After an inital fumble with VR, I reverted back as I found that I freak out when I cant really see my real world surroundings all that well (and freak out even more when i think of the price of the PC I need to run DCS on it).

Is there perhaps some confilct with the VR software perhaps? Wild stab in the dark....

This is a good tutorial. Might be some answers here?

Are you using "track clip" or "track clip pro" (or some other device with IR leds?)

Is then your setting for "Tracking target" set to the right device? I remember having the wrong settings there once after reinstalling made the similar happen.

"Motion control" I´ve set to

Speed = 1,2

Smooth = 18

In the profiles section "HotKeys" I have set ticks for enable, toggle and trap.

Motion adjustment Yaw, Pitch, Roll, ,X, Y and z are ticked but not True View (I think that TW caused some strange behavior too)

My "camera settings" in advanced settings are as follows:

Status LEDs Enabled = True

Status led Brightness = 522

Camera rotation = 0

IR brightness = 0

Video Processing mode = Precision

Precision Mode Smoothing = 75.0

Hope this helps

Thanks FlyingH.  I have the Trackir clip Pro.  My problem starts when I click to open the software.  No matter what I click on in the software menu, it doesn't hold.  I can click on F12 which centres the headset in screen, but as soon as I move my head in any direction, trackir won't configure.  If I move my head a billionth of an inch, the whole thing goes out of whack. One blue light in bottom left of camers is on. and stays there no matter what I do.

Might be a long shot and what you describe doesn't sound familiar to me at all (I've used TIR5 + Pro Clip for years on a Win10 system), but have you tried a different USB port?

It sounds like some kind of conflicting settings. I have changed the center command to ctrl+alt+F12 in order to be sure not to have conflicts with commands in games.

Uninstall TIR software

Remove the file in app data   (C:\Users\Your windows user name\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint/ tir5

Reboot PC

Install TIR software as administrator and run as administrator

after choosing or making a profile, put a tic mark on run as exclusive in the interface for that profile

This will run that profile on EVERY game you start

this will prevent tir from loading Tir profiles that default to game exe that are in the TIR software

I really appreciate the responses.  I'll try all that members here have suggested, and report results.    Take care my friends...Eddie.

I don't have the clip pro, and installed the latest software. Left all default, and it seems only stray light cause problems.

I also have an old Trackhat 3 lights unit which i found hard to set up with TrackIR5.

Left and right movements are very different as the unit sits at the right side of my headphone set. Worked OK with Opentrack before.

Does anyone have tips or profiles for that situation?

I'm not sure exactly how the TiR SW works in this case (been too long since I used it), but could it be that your clip has the "wrong" dimensions? In OT you can adjust the size of the clip you're using in the SW, but I'm not sure if that's even an option in TiR, since they'll probably expect you to use their Pro Clip. I know my Delanclip didn't work 100% in OT until I rechecked its dimensions and calibrated OT to it. Before I did that, it behaved very much like what you describe (certain movements got translated rather weirdly). Can't remember having to do any calibration in TiR, but I always used it with their Pro Clip and there still could be a setting in there to adjust the dimensions of the clip.

Hi BOO.  I haven't tried anything fow a while, but you brought up an interesting possibility. I have the Pimax 8kx HMD.  I'm not looking forward to uninstalling the Pimax software if I don't really have to. Pimax is not a plug and play HMD per se.  It takes a LOT of software tweaking etc.   Do you know of a similar issue with a VR headset?  Does anyone here know for sure that VR software  conflicts with TracKir?    Thanks for this BOO.  All help from fellow members is greatly appreciated.  Take care...Eddie.

Oculus/SteamVR and Opentrack seem to work fine on my system. Of course: I usually run either VR or OT, not both at the same time (why would I?). Some of my squaddies also use headtracking and VR (mostly Reverb G2s and I'm not sure what kind of tracking, but I'm certain there are some with TiR5)... none have ever complained about conflicts AFAIK. Since both systems use different methods of tracking and TrackIR/OT is basically nothing more than a webcam, hooked up to specialized SW, I don't really see where the conflict would come from. Plus, as stated, nobody would be using both at the same time, so ....
