Please give us floating runways or in-flight despawn points

Dear developers, you have created marvelous sceneries on your maps. Unfortunately, many regions are not easily accessible, simply because they lack airfields.

Is there a way to implement freely positionable runways, like we had in IL-2 46? I'd love to fight in the beautiful Caucasus mountains.

Alternatively, you might implement freely positionable areas for automatic in-flight despawn (counterpart of air-spawn).

Any of the above mentioned features would enable us to bring the dogfight just about anywhere on a map.

Thank you for your consideration.

I’d love to see some sort of in-flight despawn capability.  It solves a ton of problems with trying to simulate long missions, that could span an entire map and/or take many hours.

An example is Operation Market-Garden.  A significant amount of the aerial fighting in the early part of that battle involved 8th Air Force and Fighter Command units flying out of the UK.  We can air-spawn them coming across the channel, but then have no way to recover them except to have them fly far to the south to land on airfields that weren’t active yet.

Terrible idea imo. Can just imagine a JG blob camping next to a despawn area, ready to dive into the wormhole the second they spot enemy fighters at co alt. Also, there's already an option to despawn in-flight.

As we can see, theres a good reason why most servers disable the option to despawn in-flight. Having these despawn zones would just lead to more cancerous gameplay.

The problem with the existing despawn option is that it isn’t limited or controlled in any way.  You can just exit in the middle of a fight, anywhere on the map.

If the despawn zone was setup like most of the other features in the mission editor, the zone could be placed in a reasonable spot - far behind friendly lines where it couldn’t easily be abused.  And you could activate or deactivate it as needed - so for instance you could use a check zone to see if enemies were present, and deactivate the despawn option when enemies are near.

I'd like to produce a fast paced dogfight scenario over the Bulge and one in the North Caucasus Mountains. Both areas are visually stunning, but hardly easy to get in an out of due to lack of airfield coverage.

Having a portable airfield to facilitate online gameplay would be awesome. Alternatively I'd be delighted if the devs opened up and supported map editting as a standard feature.

In addition, this has often ocurred to me:

Many operational units were based beyond the boundaries of the maps they fought over; and in the case of both Rhineland and Normany this has also led to design decisions to reduce the volume of contested airspace and battlefield on the map in order to include the bases that more distant units incuded in the module's plane set required.

I can also see this being an issue with the kind of vast and sparesly populated land mass which might characterise parts of the Mediterranean or Far Eastern fronts.

I'd be all in favour of supported player map editting, map-edge mission-exits and set-piece mission designer placeable air-bases.

It is already possible :)You cannot change forests, rivers or height maps, but adding airfields (among other things) is a piece of cake. See the manual I wrote here:

I  cannot believe anyone would ask for an arcade mode in IL2 ?   Asking for enough flat spaces for mountain airfields is fine though.  There were many in Greece etc.

The more options, the more accessibility, the more players, the more sales, the more ability to meet that realism quest.  Amazing how many insist on slitting their own throats.  They're options, no one forces you into using them.  And if everyone happens to choose using them on "their" servers, than you must be the freak after all.

I'm pretty sure there is a control that means you can turn this off. On Combat Box, you aren't able to finish mission unless you are landed, dead or bailed out.

I think. Not 100% sure, but fairly sure.
