Re-occuring screen freeze,in Vr or not; with Mods or not.

This has gone on for some time. I almost always play GB with VR...I get a screen freeze, usually but not always exiting game play after ending a mission. The screen will freeze in the cockpit view, and the monitor will freeze on the mission results screen. In the VR view the cockpit view is "cropped " with a tilted black border or matt, which locks in the view. It happens most often on Rhineland maps but I've seen it happen on other maps as well. There are two ways to get out of the frozen situation. I can wait it out ,usually about 5 minutes and I'll be back at the Steam Library page where I can start game play again  or I can use "Task Manager " to quit the game .At this point the cockpit view is still frozen in the ReverbG2 headset and now I have to shut down WMR  and Steam VR. If I want to play again I have to start everything over again.

I've tried everything I can think of :uninstalling & reinstalling game ( with Mods on, with them off,)through Steam, checking game files to see what could be missing and usually I am missing a file or two. Restoring them doesn't solve the Freezes. I've done a completely new install as well and then replaced the various graphics ,mission  etc. folders.

One last thought could this have anythiing to do with leaving the "Full Screed " box checked or unchecked?

As you might imagine flying a long mission into France or Belgium and finishing it successfully and having it freeze & disappear is maddening- I only hope someone can figure out what's happening.

I've noticed your posts and was going to review your story to see if I could see anything you hadn't already tried, but you didn't post to your original thread.  I would suggest you post there only rather than starting new threads.  If anyone is to be of real help, they need to read what you've done and the other information that would be there.  You might get more help if you make it easier for others to see what you've done.  This is a nice summary but there might be a hint you left in the other posts that might just unlock the door for someone.

Thanks for the advice..I guess this problem popping up again, and with little response on my original post I thought posting it again might stir up further ideas.I think the only new addition is the description of what I see in VR and what is on the monitor.I will check back with original thread to see if anything there that I might have forgotten might help.?

This may have more to do with Windows Mixed Reality install than anything to do with Steam or Mods. I was having similar problems pop up with the “other” Steam flight sin that has a beta VR for testers. I have uninstalled and re-installed WMR and it seems to have had a positive result at least initially. The freezes still happens occasionally but not nearly as often.

Maybe someone can tell me if updates are available for WMR or if they are automatic?

Thanks!

Have you overclocked anything? I noticed years ago that just because it is stable in some OEM check program, that it would lock up GB. Make sure you aren't too close to the limit.

They are done usually through the Windows Store, so if you've got that to autoupdate it will do it automatically. On occasion there might also be a device driver delivered via Windows' normal update.

Here's the update history to date:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/mixed-reality-software

Also, if you are using Windows 11 with an AMD processor you just might be getting this - it can also happen on 10 but not as often apparently and depends on what other software you have running (if it might be trying to access the fTPM module or not):

If so, then check if your motherboard maker has issued a BIOS update for the latest AGESA.

Honestly I am barely literate with computers.Other than contacting the “Geek Squad” I wouldn’t know where to start to find out if my PC and 070 card is overclocked. It came as is in my AZUS PC I bought early last year. If I did find it was over clock I wouldn’t know what to do next…? Is there any simple way …I’m guessing “not so much…”

Hahaha... probably not overclocked then :)
