Smaller Plane sets?

Just an idea that has been bobbing in my mind for a little while, what about some smaller plane sets to go along with the larger packs? This could be a good way to expand the scale of IL-2 without long development times. I'm thinking 2 axis planes and 2 allied, along with an exclusive map, something smaller than what we usually see. (like Velikiye Luki size) This could give us some smaller theatres of operation that aren't worth making a larger game for. It could also be a cheaper option for someone wanting to try out the game. I also want to see some more maps cycled around in multiplayer servers. Here are some of my ideas-

IL-2 Battle of El Alamein (or other desert battle) - P-40c tomahawk, Bristol Beaufighter, Fiat Cr.42, Macchi MC.200 Saetta

(This could be a cool place to use the hurricane mk2, p-40E, spitfire mkV, bf-109 f2/g2, and others)

IL-2 Battle of Britain- Spitfire MK1, Hurricane MK1, BF-109 E-4, Ju-87b

IL-2 Battle of Berlin- Yak-3, La-7, BF-109 g10, Focke-Wulf Ta 152

(This could also be a full-sized module, with the yak-9 late)

This could make a good introduction to the pacific as well, if information on Japanese planes is limited. Somewhere in the south pacific would be cool. Battle of Midway could also be simplified to just 4 aircraft, f4f, a6m, d3a, and sbd. It would have a very simple map as well.

Unrelated ideas-

IL-2 flying fortress- Just the B-17G, fully modeled, with a working Norden Bombsight and full gunner positions. I can see this being sold as its own module with a special campaign.

Tank Crew Battle of the Bulge - M4a3e8 Sherman, M4a1 75mm, Churchill MKVII, Cromwell IV, M-18 Hellcat, Tiger 2, jagdpanther,  late war versions of the pz 4, panther, and tiger 1.

I don't know if everything here is historically accurate to its time frame, it's just stuff I personally want to see.

I like the idea but you should know that a development cycle is more than planes.

The maps for those planes, together with vehicles, towns, buildings,... are all part of a development cycle.

So even with smaller plane sets you still need to go through a complete development cycle.

What could be done is make a new map with a smaller plane set and then develop planes that fit on the existing maps.

I wouldn't count on any North Africa or Battle Of Britain content though, we got Blitz and Desert wings for that.

About the B17-G, there's tons of topics about 4-engine bombers already and it has been discussed to death.

Have a nice day.

Good points. Team Fusion's work on COD looks great, but I wish it was available outside of steam. I know the Pacific theatre and heavy bombers have had a lot of discussion, but I'm still hoping ??

...yet still rumours persist that somehow it's impossible to have either 4-engine aircraft or a large amount of gunners, against what Jason himself has said. Namely, that the only reason they don't do a B-17 (or similar) is a lack of time, which goes for all the other aircraft as well.

What is confirmed, though, is that there's a limit in city size. That's the reason London and Paris are not on the Normandy map. So that'd disqualify a Berlin map.

I would be all for DLC maps in general though. Take something like Tunisia; we've got lots of the aircraft already for both sides, as well as tanks (Churchill on the Allied side, Pz.III, IV and VI on the Axis side). The map would also not need to be too large to feature the main Allied and Axis fighter airfields (see map below - about 300 by 100 km would be needed, a little wider but less tall than the Stalingrad map), and would be relatively sparsely populated. It's also not quite really desert (Mediterranean climate, rather) so it wouldn't compete with Desert Wings. The obvious disadvantage would be that new objects would need to be created for North-African buildings and vegetation.

Did he really say so? I must have missed it; I thought the bottleneck is the game's current engine..

Even more; he threatened to ban everyone who'd repeat that the amount of gunner positions is the bottleneck:popcorm::

Yet somehow this rumour still persists....

I gotta say, a BoB plane set only - devoid of map (could avoid labelling as BoB and simply call it  - "early war plane pack") seems like a no brainer to me. With Normandy, we have a map that could work as a stand in, and having some of the early war planes available would be fantastic.

However if they wanted to really flesh this out and provide a full title with map, they could do Battle of France and include a bunch of planes with crossover use to BoB.

There’s a lot of interesting overlap between early France and Finland planesets as well - MS 406, Hawk 75, Fokker XXI, Blenheim etc.
