69th_Mobile_BBQ Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 (edited) (P-51 B) I've noticed that under certain circumstances, when diving from high altitude to low altitude, the indicator light for the second stage of the supercharger stays on. For those not knowing what light that is, it is next to the "auto/manual" toggle switch at the bottom of the dashboard and has the words "high blower" next to it. Is this a real life thing where the supercharger could get stuck in high gear and need to be "forced" into low by toggling the switch or is it a game bug? I vaguely recall something about some plane having this problem but, I can't remember what plane or even where I got that information from. It might even be plane that never saw WW2 for all I know. Does anybody else possibly know more about this? Edited April 18, 2022 by 69th_Mobile_BBQ
Sitaro Posted April 30, 2022 Posted April 30, 2022 All I can say is I noticed it to and thought I had hit a button I didn't intend to hit.

When I fly it, "automatic" setting of the blower keeps the high gear in (in standard P-51B) until I descend back to 3'000 ft. That is also when the blower indicator light goes off again. Stats page says you have to have the throttle at least 1/3 forward for the system to engage, but I can descend at full power after the switch to high gear down to 3'000 ft where it aitomatically switches to low gear. Anyone has a table where the switching altitudes of the blower gear are listed? I think 3'000 ft. is rather low.
Bert_Foster Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 A bug imo. Attached graphic. Top is from NA corporation P51B Tech manual. Bottom excerpt from RAF Mustang III pilot notes. 1
357th_KW Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 I've only noticed it happening with the -3 engine. Pretty sure it's a bug.
Bert_Foster Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Too me its bugged in both engine variants. In AUTO it steps up in the climb just fine. In the descent it remains in HIGH blower unless you cycle the Supercharger switch. In AUTO it should automatically switch to LOW on descent.
357th_KW Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 I just tested this, and both variants of the engine work normally (shift back and forth between high and lower blower at roughly the same altitude in the automatic setting) when equipped with either 150 octane mod. And both fail to shift back down to low blower until 3000ft when not equipped with 150 octane. Definitely a bug. Here's a link to a power table for both engines showing the approximate shift points: http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/mustang/V-1650-3_7_power_curve.jpg
Bert_Foster Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 The Plot thickens Indeed both Engine variants and 150 Octane Fuel variants SC step down in AUTO works just fine. In the 100 Octane variants it will Step down in AUTO but the shift change on descent is occurring at 3000'. Seems to me someone left out a digit a..... leading "1" in the FM file perhaps ?
