Aapje Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 (edited) This looks like it potentially might be a very good budget all-round headset, being sold for €449 and having very similar features to a 256 GB Quest, but with a DisplayPort, allowing full use of the screen with PCVR. That feature makes it much more suitable for simming than a Quest, yet it's a lot more flexible and cheaper than a Reverb G2. They are doing a very small launch, which they advertise as more of a beta program than a real product launch. It will first ship in Germany, France, Spain and the Netherlands in May. The UK (£399) and Italy will follow in June. Some people here might be interested in getting this headset and then they can use this topic to tell us their experiences with IL-2. I'd be interested to hear about it. Edited April 13, 2022 by Aapje 1
dburne Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 (edited) Yeah native Display Port connection along with no Facebook requirement is huge, at least they are taking PC-VR seriously. Sorry to see they are not offering it initially in the States but I personally would not be interested in this currently. I am sure there would be many others that would be. unlikely_spider Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 My Reverb G2 stopped working for the second time and I'm unable to use VR for the time being ☹️ Any upcoming alternative is good news from my perspective. Still awaiting that "holy grail" headset with good resolution, sweet spot, fov, and comfort. 1
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 Quotes, basically: According to the post-launch talks between Marcus and Sebastian from Mixed Reality TV the Pico Neo 3 has larger edge-to-edge clarity than the Reverb G2, same FOV, almost similar resolution, and very good, bright screens. What is to come will be better wireless capability through Virtual Desktop.

But as Dburne said, the big advantage is the DP connection, so doesn´t need to be compressed-decompressed (limiting framerate and creating ghosting). I suspect now that things have gotten quiet over this, they are probably going to just not do it. Will see. Even if they did I am sure it would all be tied into the Meta account which for all practical purposes would end up with the same result - Meta harvesting all that data.
Aapje Posted May 22, 2022 Author Posted May 22, 2022 There was an interview recently with a Meta guy and he said that there were legal issues that postponed the Facebook account unlinking. They seem to already have the technical ability and some people have gotten unlinked by convincing support to do so.
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Wait wait wait I just got linked up yesterday and now you're telling me they're gonna unlink me soon? Make up your mind Meta !
dburne Posted May 26, 2022 Posted May 26, 2022 (edited) Native Display Port - big advantage over Quest. Edited May 26, 2022 by dburne
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 Indeed. It lacks the awesome software though. I don't like that exclusives exist but they just being out great titles over there at Meta. Who hasn't played Lone Echo has missed out on some of the greatest stories and experiences you can have in VR, similar to HLA. Beats the experience of the best Sci-Fi books out there.

chiliwili69 Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 Yes, I bringing here an old post, but, Who has tried the Pico Neo 3 Link with IL-2?? or with any other game? Any feedback is welcome.
chiliwili69 Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 Well, it lloks like in this the review the comfort is not great: https://mixed-news.com/en/pico-neo-3-link-test-good-quest-2-competition-with-drawbacks/
56RAF_phoenix56 Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 (edited) I've actually had a Pico 3 Link for about 8 months as a backup for my flakey G2. As a consumer bit of hardware, it's rather well thought out and built. Good strain relief and securing of the DP cable, much better balanced than the G2. As you'll see below, I haven't used it much and not optimised the settings, for a reason. The face gasket is OK, but I've not used it for hours. The field of view is wide and the clarity towards the edges much, much better than the G2. The colours are a bit poor, much less natural than the G2, but I suspect they can be tweaked with the OpenComposite helper settings on each channel. However, I've not done this. The major, major problem (for me) with this headset was that I couldn't get it to connect to SteamVR (or OpenComposite) through DP (or WiFi) for months. Pico support via a 3rd party company was reasonably responsive, sent a new DP cable when it was pretty obvious it was a software issue. Eventually, it worked when I ran everything as Admin, which was a real pain because il2GB isn't set up for multiple users, the controls get scrambled. Pico support said an update to their Pico Link software that didn't require Admin would be coming, but couldn't give a date. To be fair, I've now lent the headset to a friend, so haven't been able to try the recently updated software. My impression about Pico is that the software for the different models is written by completely different teams who don't talk to each other. If you're on their latest and greatest headset then the support is probably fine. Older, and you're back of the queue. Decent hardware, let down by the software. 56RAF_phoenix Edited February 12, 2023 by 56RAF_phoenix56 typo 1
Addict Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 (edited) I have this headset for 2 weeks and I have no problem with the Display Port or software. This is my first headset and I can't compare them with others. I just know that I will not go back to any monitor, this is another higher level of immersion . Edited February 22, 2023 by Addict 1 1
56RAF_phoenix56 Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 Hi Addict, I'd be interested to hear whether you run Pico Link on the PC as Admin? Welcome to VR! 56RAF_phoenix
Qcumber Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 Does anyone have any comparisons of Pico 4 vs Pico 3 neo link with IL-2? Is the overall quality of the Pico 3 better because of the display port? Assuming they are running on similar PCs.
