Radios since the last patch

Are they broken for anyone else?  I can turn the volume up and down with the keys, it shows the levels moving in the cheat tips, but it has zero effect for actually quieting those crazy bastids, they're driving me nuts with no ability to silence them.

If it happens delete the startup.cfg and generate a new one.  Odd thing is the sounds section is exactly the same as the original, so don't think the issue is in this section as one thinks,

[KEY = sound]
    debug_radio = 0

Exactly the same in both, but deleting the whole file worked and resetting most everything inside the game menu fixed the volume controls.

I noticed that the radio volume control sometimes stops working, i.e. like you're reporting it shows in technochat the % is going down but the volume doesn't change. I've seen it happen a year ago, half a year ago, 3 months ago, etc, i.e.   To fix it I just need to restart a mission, no need to exit the game...

Yup, after more sessions it's still pooched, sometimes it works now if I decrease it, than increase to max, than decrease again, really a strange one.

No issues for me, works same as it always has.

Yeah I've had that happen on occasion as well and not just on the latest version, I seem to recall it occurring at least a year ago as well.

O.K. time for a dumb question

If one is in a flight on a bombing run, wouldn't you be on a different channel than your escort? I can see the flight lead changing to their channel, for a short time, but wouldn't everyone else be on their own?

They'd be on several channels: one for communication with Base, one for their flight, probably one for the whole flight, the escorts, maybe Ground Forces, and then within the bomber, they'd have intercom for the different positions.  That's part of the reason that the big bombers have a Radio Man as a seperate position.  A lot to juggle and keep track of.  And those radios back then weren't as simple as 'turn the dial/punch in 177.0' they had to literally tune the frequencies in, tweak them, etc.

Also, jamming. In several memoirs I've read about their comms howling with interference while over enemy territory. As if "I'm wounded!" on repeat wasn't enough.

What's interesting with that is that apparently the Germans never configured their radios so that the fighters could communicate with the bombers they were tasked to escort. That's from what I read in Black Cross / Red Star years ago.

I believe the fighters had 4-5 channels. Of course they were tube radios, of which they were what we would call C.B. radios today. And that was IF they worked.

My Dad told me a story of after take off he had a gas leak in the cockpit. He said it may have been a good thing his radio was out, so he hand signaled he had to return to base. Said he had a lot of gas sloshing around on the floor boards by the time he landed. I can imagine keying the mic and having a spark.
