1Sascha Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 Been out of the recording-loop for quite a while now. I've played around with Shadowplay yesterday which I had already used occasionally way back when NVidia introduced it. However: I'm kinda worried about its footprint (if there is any ... didn't really notice any real performance-hits with either the GF-stuff in the background or manual capture active), plus a 15 minute recording I did with it in 1440p resulted in a 4.5 GB video-file, so I'm wondering if there are other alternatives out there that will produce decent, "YT-worthy" quality in 1080 or 1440 and be less taxing on the HW and my SSD. One reason why I'd actually like to get rid of the whole GF overlay is the fact that quite a lot of its key-controls conflict with default IL-2 keymappings, which can get pretty annoying. I've used bandicam's free version almost exclusively in the past, simply because Shadowplay didn't work with most games I captured. Is that thing still an option or are there better alternatives out there now? S.
StormingThunderhead Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 I've used OBS Studio with great success. It is very flexible in setting different recording resolutions and supports multiple audio channels so you can separate coms from game sounds. It comes with a set up wizard, but there are also many tutorial videos on how to set it up. Recording as a .mkv also makes it crash proof. OBS has a resource use indicator and typically uses ~1.6% of my CPU during recording. PS. I use DaVinci Resolve for post editing. Best thing is both are freeware. 1
