Its the only morally justifable large scale modern conflict that i know of.

What conflict (anytime) is morally less justifiable then WWII? It was started to conquer living space for an imaginary masterrace…

But due to it‘s nature there was just more combat then in any other war - in all dimensions of warfare - so lots of stuff that can be used as base for interesting gameplay in many genres.

I think it had far less to do with morality and far more to do with the huge quantity and range of action that took place in WW2.  Biplanes to jet fighters, rifle caliber machine guns to smart bombs and cruise missiles, arctic circle to tropical island to sandy desert and everything in between.  Small skirmishes between a couple planes to mass battles featuring thousands of aircraft.  WW2 has it all.

I do think that the context beyond gameplay does have appeal to people. Any battle that involves liberating somewhere from occupation or defending somewhere that's ones own does have a bit of romance and heroism

I was speaking from the point of view of the allies. Which, for some odd reason, i didnt think would need to be explained.

Sure - decisions like the British to attack worker homes a night instead of factories to destroy the labor force are morally completely justifiable...

In Desert Storm in contrast (where the Allies came to aid an attacked country) the Allies attacked quite precisely military targets...

I still think your thesis doesn't work...

War is hell. I don't think any country or group of peoples that have engaged in conflict can 100% hold the moral high ground. Hundreds of thousands of civilians have been starved because of sanctions, or killed in conflicts in just the last 40 years or so. The world is a crazy place at the moment and seems to be getting crazier by the minute. Having said that, this forum is not the place for such discussions so I'll say no more on that subject.

I hope that we will have many more years of expansions and collectible aircraft developed. I really would like to see "heavies" even if AI. Malta or Burma would be dream expansions for me. I think that if a Pacific expansion with carriers is created that would please an awful lot of people and hopefully bring many more new people on board. Hopefully we will get another 20 plus years of this series. The only problem is I'll probably be in a retirement home by then!

On the short term there are no winners or losers. Only survivors.

For the long terms nobody can say what it will be.

After WWI the long terms was WWII so who knows really. Nobody.

On humanity historical time span, war or not war, surviving to another day was the only short term objective.
